Greetings from “The Home” front …

Happy Memorial Day to all of you!! I know this will be a busy weekend for many of you with high school graduations and Memorial Day programs – enjoy your time with friends and family.

We are busy here at LMH doing fun activities. Monday, we found out about Peculiar Patents. Some were interesting and others were totally wacky! Illumination Slippers that help when you get up in the middle of the night seemed like a good idea. But then there was Edible Cards – no more having to serve sandwiches or dessert after your card game – just have your guests eat their cards! These are actual inventions that received a patent! There was also a rousing game of Bunco in the afternoon but we did not eat the cards afterwards and then Bingo in the evening. On Tuesday it was Newscurrents and card games (!) and Parachute in the afternoon. Father Bob was here for Catholic Mass on Wednesday morning and then Music/Song trivia. What was Elvis Presley’s first hit song in 1956? (Heartbreak Hotel). The crafty crafters made colorful Butterfly Window Clings during Crafts in the afternoon. Due to current Covid restrictions, we did not have Kitchen Capers this week but finished working on our Roll A Garden dice game. Molly went Shopping for the residents later in the day. Thursday brought 5-Sqare, Pretty Nails and Down Memory Lane. Plus, Bingo in the evening. There is Church on Friday followed by Men’s Club in the afternoon. On Saturday it’s Sit & Be Fit in the Morning followed by Bingo and Wheel of Fortune.

We will have Memorial Day Reminisce on Monday morning followed by special readings and poetry. There is Bingo in the evening. Tuesday marks actual Memorial Day and we will have a special Memorial Day Program in the afternoon. The full schedule for June is not out yet but I do know we will be playing Bunco on Tuesday, doing Crafts on Wednesday, Bible Study on Thursday and Church with Communion on Friday. There will be evening Bingo on Monday and Thursday. Activity director Lysa has some other great activities in the works and they will be posted soon. You can always check our Luther Memorial Home website to see what is happening and find the latest information on activities, menus, covid, and even employment.

Congratulations to the following staff members who were nominated for Caregiver of the Year Award: Skyyla Johnson, Jennifer Koenig, Shelby Krueger, Amanda Landa, Kira Oxton, Greg Pruneda and Lysa Wright. They will be honored at a special staff party on June 9th.

We were saddened by the passing of three of our residents this week. Don Sussex on May 19, Gary Nickel on May 20 and Dennis Lindstrom on May 21. Don was well known in the Hope ND community – he enjoyed visits with staff and family, listening to music and watching TV. Gary loved having pizza with his wife, listening to 60s rock n roll, and reminiscing. He was the recipient of a Cherished Hope event and was able to go fishing one more time at Golden Lake. Dennis was with us briefly and enjoyed visiting with family, friends and staff. Rest in Peace all three of you special men.

On a cheerier note – we have several birthdays coming up! Jaiden Denault finished out May with a birthday on May 31st. June birthdays include Residents Delores Evans and Merwin Lyng on June 3rd, Mike Hillebrand and Bethany Vise on June 4th. Staff member Raven Smith celebrates his birthday on June 4th. Happy Birthday to all of you and enjoy your special day!

Until next time … a thought for the week … Die with memories – not dreams!
