Greetings from “The Home” front …

Guten Tag!!! In case some of you Norwegians out there don’t know German, Guten Tag means “Hello”. We celebrated Oktoberfest on Monday with a fun party in the dining room. The activity staff served Rueben bites, soft pretzels and cheese, German chocolate cupcakes, and even had a beer tasting. Some of the residents even tried their hand at Hammerschlagen – a German nail driving competition. The stein holding competition was a tough one, we had four brave residents give it a try to see who could hold the stein longest…Florence Syvertsen came out triumphant at 6 minutes, 4 seconds! We also had Bingo in the evening. There was Newscurrents on Tuesday morning followed by a Going Away Party for Nurse Shelby Krueger who is off to new adventures in Arizona. We had Name that Tune on Wednesday and then, during Crafts, the residents made ghosts to hang in their rooms. These were friendly ghosts and not the scary type. Pastor Deb was here for Bible Study on Thursday morning and in the afternoon, we had a special musical treat when Dave Herzog came to play the steel drums. His music reminds me of the Caribbean and tropical breezes. There was also Bingo in the evening. Pastor Deb was back for Church with Communion on Friday morning and then after dinner the ladies got their nails done during Pretty Nails. Saturday brings Sit & Be Fit, Bingo and a Detective game in the afternoon.

Molly will be here for Crosswords on Sunday. There is Down Memory Lane on Monday morning followed by Bunco and a Resident Council meeting and Resident Rights Presentation. Of course, there is also Bingo in the evening. We have Newscurrents on Tuesday morning and then Lysa and ChiChi will be cooking up something special during Kitchen Capers. Wednesday brings Choir in the morning and Crafting in the afternoon. We will be doing some brain challenges on Thursday morning when the residents play Words in Words and later in the afternoon trying to Name that Decade. We are also having Rhythm Band between those two activities, plus Bingo in the evening. It’s going to be a fun filled day. There is Church on Friday morning followed by Pretty Nails and 1:1 visits.

We would like to wish Nurse Inez Olson a Happy retirement. Inez has been a nurse here at LMH for almost 27 years. She mainly worked during the evening shift. Enjoy your retirement, Inez!!!

Congratulations to Jordan and Kayla Eken on the birth of their baby girl, Aubree Marie. Aubree was born September 29th and weighed in at 7 lbs 6 oz and 19” in length. Looks like Aubree is a very strong healthy little girl. Our residents and staff can hardly wait to meet her!!! Kayla is one of our social workers and Jordan works in maintenance here at LMH.

We would also like to welcome Alayna Johnson to our activity dept staff. Alayna will be working as an “on call” staffer. She owns her own business in Grand Forks and has done a great job meeting all of our residents and learning what we do in activities at LMH!

We have one resident birthday this week – Happy Birthday and Best Wishes to Vern Willeson on October 11th. And that is our only resident birthday for the rest of October! We do have 3 staff members with birthdays next week: Caroline Wilson on October 9th, Sue Tastad on October 11th and Stacey Nosbusch on October 16th. Happy Birthday to all of you too.

Until next time … a thought for the week …Which way you chose to see your life in the future depends on your attitude today ….
