Greetings from “The Home” front …
What a wonderful surprise we had on Monday when Miss North Dakota, Reyna Bergstrom, stopped by for a visit! She spent time talking with our residents, answering questions, and posing for pictures. Thank you, Reyna, for thinking of us! Also, on Monday there was Trivia in the morning and Mystery Box Reminisce. Molly had some fun vintage “mystery” items in a box and the residents had to guess what they were used for back in the “olden days”. Lots of laughter and reminiscing. We also had Bingo in the evening. On Tuesday there was Newscurrents and then our Big Special Event of the Day – the Syttende Mai celebration. Our residents enjoyed eating Kransekake, the traditional Norwegian wedding cake. We also talked about all things Norwegian – heritage and ancestry, folklore, favorite treats, and memories of travel to the beautiful country of Norway. We also had fun trying to pronounce Norwegian words and guess their English translation. Father Bob held Catholic Mass on Wednesday morning then Lysa played the piano for Name That Tune. The crafty crafters made greeting cards during Craft Time and while Molly was shopping for the residents, others made food and learned about Air Fryers during Kitchen Capers. It was a busy and fun day! On Thursday Pastor Deb was back for Bible Study and the ladies got their nails done during Pretty Nails. We also played a new game called Roll a Garden – hmm sounds interesting. Of course, there was Bingo in the evening. We had Church on Friday morning and then it was time for $$$ Bingo with the American Legion/VFW. There was a big turnout in the dining room and it is great to have those veterans back with us to play Bingo – I know our residents sure look forward to it every month. Saturday is Armed Forces Day and we salute all of our veterans that served in the military. After Coffee Time and Sit & Be Fit there will be Bingo and Down Memory Lane.
Next week starts out with Peculiar Patents – we will learn about some interesting and unusual gadgets that actually got patents. There is Bunco early in the afternoon followed by What Happened on this Day in May. Here are a couple of fun facts about May 23 … in 1876 Boston’s Joe Bordon pitched the very first no hitter in the history of the National League and in 1999, Gerry Bloch at age 81 became the oldest person to scale El Capitan in Yosemite Park – way to go Gerry! We also have Bingo in the evening. Tuesday brings Newscurrents, card games and hopefully a chance to go outside and play Parachute! We have Catholic Mass with Father Bob on Wednesday morning followed by Music Trivia and Craft Time. Molly will also go shopping for the residents. On Thursday we will play 5 square using the letters FLAME then it’s Pretty Nails and Down Memory Lane. After Church on Friday morning, the Men’s Club will meet for snacks and conversation.
A special thank you to Pam Sedler who came and played her guitar and sang for our residents in Meadowlark Lane on Saturday. They really enjoyed those old-time tunes and many of them clapped and sang along. Pam will be back again in Meadowlark on Thursday and everyone is looking forward to it.
We have only one birthday next week- Happy Birthday to Kellista Cashman on May 28th. Enjoy your special day Kellista!!
So…. Until next time … I will leave you with this thought for the week …. Making one person smile can change the world. Maybe not the whole world but their world …
