Greetings from "The Home" front
Boy getting back that “lost” hour sure felt good!!! I hope you put it to good use – like maybe sleeping in!
We have been busy as usual here at “the home”. Molly was here on Sunday to do word association games with the residents. One of their favorites is to finish the advertising jingle and then try to remember which product it was for. We played lots of new activities this week. There was Trivia on Monday morning followed by “How Low Can You Go” – no it wasn’t a limbo contest!! It was a new card game using a deck of Uno cards; the winner is the person who has the lowest score in the end. We also Remembered Tupperware and played Bingo in the evening. We had Newscurrents on Tuesday followed by Kitchen Capers. Lysa and ChiChi whipped up delicious “Thanksgiving in a Cup”, a new pumpkin and yogurt treat for us to try. Afterwards there was lots of laughter and giggling as the residents played Noodle Ball. Lysa played the piano for Name That Tune on Wednesday morning and in the afternoon, during Craft Time, everyone made a pumpkin pie slice out of tissue paper. They really did look good enough to eat and it made a fun door hanger too. We learned “All About Veterans” on Thursday morning followed by Pretty Nails in the afternoon. We also played 5 Square using the V-A-L-O-R letters, then Bingo in the evening. Friday was a very special day with Church in the morning and then our Salute to our Veterans in the afternoon. The veteran’s program was well attended and it was a privilege to honor our residents who served their country in the armed services. The following veteran residents were recognized: Neil MacFarlane, Ralph Rucinski, Hadley Verwest, Mike Hillebrand, Bill Bird, Kenard Knudson, Dr. Del Hlavinka, Walter Rindy, Phillip Webb, Kim Plank, Robert Robinson, Bob Verwest, Clyde Cooper, Alvin Amundson, Mary Robinette, Rich Snortland, Philip Turchin ,Roger Syvertsen, Truman Thykeson, Vern Willeson, Michael Strand, Roger Anderson, Ken Eken, Merwin Lyng, Terry Anderson, Dale Wamstad and Ron Hanson. Our Sun Center veterans are Bud Holkesvig, Stuart Ness, Clem Petrick, Robert Nygord, and Albert Ness. A special thank you to Bruflat Lutheran Church WELCA who made cards and provided a candy treat for each of our veterans and also those at Sun Center Apartments. We appreciate you thinking of us. There was Sit & Be Fit on Saturday morning followed by Bingo and Wheel of Fortune in the afternoon.
Next weeks starts out with Short Stories on Monday morning followed by Men’s Club in the afternoon. We also have a Resident Council meeting and Bingo in the evening. Tuesday brings a very special treat in the afternoon – our Pie Social for the residents and staff!!! Staff members have signed up to bring a pie and everyone will be able to sample various slices. So glad I am working that day!!! There is Choir on Wednesday followed by crafts in the afternoon. The residents will be making a Thanksgiving card to send to a friend or relative. ChiChi will be going shopping for the residents later in the afternoon. Pastor Deb is here for Bible Study in the morning and then Tim Mosser is back for a musical activity in the dining room. We are so happy to have him return to entertain us. There is also Bunco and Bingo! Friday brings Church in the morning followed by Pretty Nails and 1:1 visits.
We have only one resident birthday next week – Happy Birthday to Rich Daucsavage on November 18th. And only two staff birthdays – Samantha Shumway on November 14th and Kristina Moen on November 15th. Happy Birthday to all of you and enjoy your special day!
Our sincere sympathy to the friends and family of Harriet Ulland who passed away on November 5th. Harriet was the sweetest lady and she loved to visit with our staff and was always interested in their lives. Rest in Peace Harriet – you will be missed.
Until next time …. A thought for the week …. Life is short to be anything but Happy. Laugh when you can. Apologize when you should. And let go of what you can’t change!
