Greetings from “The Home” front …
Well, Covid raised its ugly head again and we have several residents and staff who have tested positive. We have re-established our Covid Unit and residents are staying in their rooms. However, with new CDC and State guidelines – you are still able to come and visit friends and family. Masks required and temperatures taken as you enter. Staff and residents are being tested twice a week and more frequently if needed. Please keep all of us here at LMH and Sun Center in your prayers.
That being said – our activity department and other units too are doing their best to keep our resident’s spirits up. Monday was Valentine’s Day and Lysa and Katherine made, decorated and delivered Valentine cupcakes to everyone in their rooms. There was also a special candy treat box for residents to enjoy. Later the activity staff went up and down the hallways singing songs. Lysa played her guitar while others accompanied her. The residents enjoyed the music and some even suggested we should be on American Idol – although I think they were joking!! Thank heavens for our Channel 98 – the in-house TV channel as many of our activities can be broadcast into each resident’s room. Staff have been playing Trivia, reading stories, Newscurrents and even Name That Tune via TV. Pastor Deb led a Bible Study on Thursday morning and did one on one visitations. Our activity staff have also been providing hand massages and nail care for our ladies.
A special THANK YOU also goes out to the Traill County Trailblazes who provided Valentine Cards to our residents. The Bruflat Church Sunday School children also wrote letters and made cards for our residents to enjoy. Thank You again for thinking of everyone here at LMH.
We also received a beautiful batik designed lap quilt from an anonymous donor. It was decided the quilt should become a wall hanging in our various hallways and Meadowlark Lane so that everyone can enjoy it. Thank You to that special quilter for bringing such beauty to our walls.
Next week’s schedule includes Fun Facts about US Presidents (Monday is President’s Day), A Patriotic Sing Along, then Newscurrents on Tuesday. An Ice Cream Social is also planned for Tuesday. On Wednesday there is Choir and Crafts. The residents will be making a greeting card. Down Memory Lane is on the schedule for Thursday morning and Pretty Nails in the afternoon. We have Church on Friday morning. The nice part of all of our activities next week is that they can still be done via Channel 98 or during visits to each room. We will just have to wait until we see how this bout of Covid plays out.
A super big THANK YOU goes out to our amazing staff who have stepped up to take extra shifts and work extra hours to get us through. Your efforts are appreciated!
Our sympathy goes out to staff member Wanda Freadrich on the passing of her significant other – Gary Radloff. Gary was briefly in our memory care unit until his passing on February 11. Rest in Peace Gary – you will be missed by many.
There are several birthdays next week – Resident Shirley Radloff has hers on February 22 and resident William Bird’s birthday is February 26th. Staff members celebrating birthdays include Samantha Clagg and Deb Pederson on February 20th; Laurana Jonas (February 21), Clarence “Junior” Nelson and Danielle Johnson on February 22, Rebecca Pekrul (February 24) and Heather Satrom on February 25th. Happy Birthday to all of you and enjoy your special day.
Until next time a thought for the week … Worry is like a rocking chair- It gives you something to do but never gets you anywhere …
