Greetings from “The Home” front …
Our residents and staff are happy to report that we have been able to keep up with our “normal” and have filled our days with group activities, festive snacks, and lots of fun. It really does feel wonderful to be able to do things together and to be out and about… even outside! The courtyard is thawing with all of this beautiful sunshine we have had lately, so we are still keeping our fingers crossed for no surprise snow storms. But let’s be real, this is North Dakota and you never really know what you’re going to get with this crazy weather.
Our highly anticipated event of crowning our LMH King and Queen finally happened! This event usually happens on Valentine’s Day, however, it had to be postponed this year due to Covid precautions. Staff and residents voted back in February, and the activity department has been keeping the royal winners under lock and key! We decided to make the big announcement at our St. Patrick’s Day party… congratulations to Queen Jane Ihry and King Merwin Lyng on being crowned our LMH royalty for 2022!
We started this week with a gardening reminisce; this weather has us itching for more spring things and our residents had a great time talking about flowers and plants and tending to them. They had so much knowledge and experience to share! We also had a fun game of Bunco in the afternoon, learned all about Paul Bunyan, and played bingo in the evening. On Tuesday, we had Newscurrents in the morning and Zig Zag Zoom in the afternoon. Wednesday brought us choir, an afternoon spring craft, and later staff went shopping for residents at Miller’s and the Dollar General. Thursday we talked about old fashioned remedies, that was sure interesting to hear about all the ways people used for their ailments. We also painted nails at Pretty Nails, played a rousing game of fly swatter ball, and finished off the day with bingo. Friday brought us church with Pastor Deb and happy half hour in the afternoon. On Saturday, we got a good workout in the morning and played bingo and 5 square in the afternoon. Sunday is a fun group crossword activity, those can sure be tricky and really gets our brains working!
Next week, we will be reminiscing about spending time outdoors, playing a springtime game, and listening to a short story reading. Tuesday will be newscurrents in the morning and will be going fishing in the afternoon. Residents will have a chance to fish for some fun prizes…or maybe some duds. We will see what Andrea has up her sleeve for them! Wednesday morning we will play name that tune and make a craft in the afternoon. Thursday we will read some funny tongue twisters and have music by Tim Mosser in the afternoon. He always puts on a great performance and our residents love to come out to listen to his music and piano playing! Friday is April already! We will have church and communion with Pastor Deb in the morning and pretty nails in the afternoon.
We have three staff birthdays next week – Erica Baldock on March 29 and Maria Kalbo and Danielle Kath on April 1 – Happy Birthday to you all and enjoy your special day!
Until next time … a thought for the week … sometimes, the best way to make a big difference is adding up lots of small ones …
