Greetings from “The Home” front …

After our last covid test on Monday there were no positive results from both residents or staff so small group activities have resumed. Hurrah!!!!

On Monday there was February trivia. Later in the day we had fun in the hallways with Noodle Ball and Rhythm Band. Residents enjoyed sitting in their doorways, playing instruments, and requesting songs. Tuesday brought Newscurrents on Channel 98 and then our Mardi Gras Snack Cart went room to room. At Reminisce on Wednesday, Lysa and Molly reminisced about various songs they remembered from their childhood. Molly remembered “My Lover Was a Logger” sung around the campfire. If you have never heard of it – look up the lyrics – they are a hoot! Lysa’s favorite childhood song was something by the Backstreet Boys, but the residents weren’t quite as familiar with that one. Later in the day, the crafty crafters made a greeting card featuring hot air balloons. Pastor Deb was here for Bible Study on Thursday and then the ladies got their nails done at Pretty Nails. We had Church on Friday morning and then played Hallway Bingo in the afternoon. Saturday brings Sit & Be Fit, BEADS category which is similar to 5 Square using the letters B-E-A-D-S. There is also Mardi Gras detective.

Molly will be here for Down Memory Lane on Sunday afternoon. She usually has some good junk to show and talk about. Monday sounds like a fun – It’s National Oreo Cookie Day on Sunday, so we are celebrating on Monday– We will learn all about Oreos and then enjoy samples from the Oreo Cart. Oreos are the best-selling cookie in the world. Over 450 billion of those little round yummies have been sold since they debuted in 1912. The activities staff also have a skit planned to be aired on Channel 98. There will be Newscurrents on Tuesday morning and Jeopardy in the afternoon. We have Crosswords on Wednesday followed by Crafts in the afternoon. The residents will be making a shamrock picture in honor of upcoming St Patrick’s Day. There is Star of the Month on Thursday and then Pretty Nails. We have Church on Friday morning and then Bingo in the afternoon.

We have one resident birthday next week – Happy Birthday to Emma Thykeson on March 9th. And only one staff member celebrating – Jeric Houdek on March 10th. Best wishes to both of you and enjoy your special day!

We are saddened by the loss of three of our residents last week. Marion Larson passed away February 17th and Ordell Olstad and Robert Aasen both on February 21st. Marion enjoyed visiting with staff and getting her nails done at Pretty Nails. Ordell was with us briefly but had several visits from family members and enjoyed watching TV and hearing devotions read by our staff. Robert also enjoyed visiting with staff and hearing devotions. Just recently he had started to come to Bingo and our musical activities. Blessed be the memory of Marion, Ordell and Robert.

Until next time … a thought for the week … from Audrey Hepburn … “Nothing is impossible. The word itself says “I’m possible” …
