Greetings from “The Home” front …
Congratulations to Susan Tastad who was named Dietary Manager of the Year!! Sue received this award in 2021 but because of Covid, the Long-Term Care Association convention was cancelled, and Sue did not receive the recognition she deserved. We are celebrating her achievement on Thursday June 9th with an ice cream social. We will also be recognizing our Caregiver of the Year nominees for 2022 and staff for their years of service.
June 16-22nd has been designated as CNA week. Our Superhero CNAs take the “cup” cake on Thursday – bet you can’t guess what they will be enjoying. Donut know what we’d do without them on Friday. Monday brings an Everyday Hero’s survival kit and Tuesday June 21 has everyone knowing the scoop – CNAs are awesome.
We started out on Sunday with Finish the Song Titles – the residents knew quite a few and were only stumped by this one song entitled - “Sam, You Made the Pants Too Long!” Who knew it was a song by Barbra Streisand!!! We played a fun game of “Yes, I Have” on Monday morning then followed up by learning about our National Parks. Yellowstone was the one most visited by our residents, followed by Theodore Roosevelt National Park in Medora. There was also Bingo in the evening. Tuesday brought Newscurrents in the morning and then our first van trip in over a year! Everyone was excited to take the van out to see the sights around Portland/Mayville. A lot has changed in the past year with new houses going up and buildings being renovated. There was Catholic Mass on Wednesday. Lysa played piano for Name That Tune and Molly did crafts with the residents in the afternoon. She also went shopping at Dollar General and Millers. We had to decide if a song was a folk tune or a rock & roll tune on Thursday morning. Then it was time for our Staff Awards Program in the afternoon. Friday brought Church and Pretty Nails. We have Sit & Be Fit on Saturday followed by Bingo.
Bruflat Church WELCA has a special event planned for our residents and also the residents of Sun Center on Sunday. They have arranged for Elroy Lindaas to play and sing and then will be serving Root Beer Floats to everyone. This is their way of letting our residents know they haven’t been forgotten during these Covid times. There is 5 square using the letters CREST on Monday followed by Bunco and a Resident Council meeting. There is also Bingo in the evening. Tuesday brings Newscurrents and then the residents will be Crafting with Andrea and ChiChi. Father Bob is here for Catholic Mass on Wednesday morning, followed by Choir and then Mystery Box Reminisce. Molly plans to bring some vintage items to see if our residents know what they were used for “back in the olden days”. Pastor Deb leads Bible Study on Thursday followed by Pretty Nails and then – Oh My!! we are planning a Cow Tipping Game!!! Will have to tell you about THAT in next week’s column. There is Church on Friday followed by TGIF Happy ½ hour!
We have three resident birthdays next week – Kaye Kvislen on June 13 and June Hanson and Lois Anderson on June 17th. There are four staff members also celebrating – Dani Rader and Cora Johnson on June 12, Amy Ramstad on June 14 and Kira Oxton on June 17. Happy Birthday to all of you and enjoy your special day!
Until next time … a thought for the week …Never measure your life by your possessions. Measure it by the hearts you touched, the smiles you created and the love you shared. Make it a great week!
