our residents receiving presents from Santa at the Christmas party last week

Greetings from “The Home” front …

We have have some BIG THANK YOUs going out to several people in this great community! First of all, to our staff members who continue to work extra hours to cover for those who cannot make it into work due to weather, road conditions or illness. Children from the AWANA group at Riverside Church came by last week and did caroling throughout the hallways. I saw lots of smiles on resident’s faces as they heard those familiar carols. The Mary Kay ladies and the community of Hope, ND delivered cosmetic gift bags to many of our residents. The residents enjoyed getting “gussied up” for the holidays with their new makeup. All the residents received new fuzzy warm slippers from Avon rep Sabrina Skeldum. Just the thing to have in this cold weather. Margaret Rice from the Mayville Library brought pens, word games and articles for everyone to do in their rooms. Kathy Baldock came and played the piano on Christmas Day – what a treat!!! Another thank you goes out to the members of the community who brought cookies and treats for our staff. Many of us didn’t have time to bake this year so the homemade cookies were wonderful. Soholt Bakery stopped by with fresh donuts and Christmas bread for our staff to enjoy. Another special thank you goes to Resident Robert Robinson who purchased luncheon meat, cheese and bread so that our entire staff could make sub sandwiches for dinner!! Also thank you to our Administration who gave every staff member a gift card either to a favorite restaurant or store.

The activity staff has been busy this week with Show n’ Tell on Monday plus a Snow Day Detective Seek and Find game. Santa (Melinda Martin) and her little dog showed up on Monday afternoon on her way back to the North Pole to deliver gifts to every one of our residents. Special thank you Melinda for thinking of everyone here at LMH – you even made the 6 p.m. WDAY news! We also had Bingo in the evening. There was Newscurrents on Thursday morning and then we played one of our favorite games – Bunco! We also brought out our map of the US and talked about travelling. Lysa played piano for Choir on Wednesday and there was Crafts in the afternoon. We made a foam magnet Snowman. ChiChi braved the snowy cold weather and went shopping for the residents. We played the guessing game What Am I on Thursday – staff gave four clues and everyone had to try to name the person or object. The ladies also got their nails done during Pretty Nails – just in time for the New Year! We had Bingo in the evening. Pastor Deb was here for Church on Friday. Saturday brings Sit & Be Fit (time to work off all those Christmas calories!!) and then Bingo in the afternoon.

We are excited to announce the hiring of Stephanie Thomas as our new Human Resources employee. Stephanie starts working here on January 9th – welcome aboard Stephanie!!

We have one resident birthday next week – Jane Ihry on January 8th. There are also two staff members who will be celebrating in the new year – Mason Olson on January 2nd and Tasha Caswell on January 7th. Happy Birthday to all of you and enjoy your special day!

Our sympathy to the friends and family of Vicki Fugleberg who passed away December 19th. Vicki was a well-known educator in the Portland/Mayville area. We also extend our sympathy to the friends and family of Phil Turchin who died on December 26th. Phil enjoyed watching TV, visiting with staff, and his family. Rest in Peace Vicki and Phil – you will be missed.

Until next time … a thought for the week … May this season warm your soul, bring love to your heart and bless you with everything this life has to offer…. Happy New Year Everyone!!!
