Our resident Veterans being honored during our Veterans Day program on 11/11.

Greetings from “The Home” front …

It seems like Winter came a bit early this year!!! I feel like Fall got a short changed and we didn’t get to fully enjoy the beautiful colors of the leaves and trees. A big THANK YOU goes out to those staff members who came in early, stayed late and even stayed overnight to help out for those staffers that could not make it into work.

We started out on Sunday with Wheel of Fortune – it was hard to compete with the Vikings Game but we had a few residents that were up to the word challenges. There were Short Stories on Monday morning followed by Men’s Club. The men enjoyed chips and salsa and war trivia. Chris Larson, Resident Council President, led a Resident Council meeting later in the afternoon and there was Bingo in the evening. Tuesday was THE DAY to be at LMH – it was the Pie Social!!! The staff brought over 22 pies for the residents to sample. What a fun time!! When asked no one could name a favorite – stating “they were all good!” Lysa led Choir on Wednesday morning and then our resident crafters made Thanksgiving greeting cards in the afternoon. Staff also went personal shopping for the residents. Pastor Deb was here for Bible Study on Thursday and we had another musical treat when Tim Mosser returned to entertain in the afternoon. He always puts on a good show and the residents certainly appreciate his style of music. Thanks again Tim!! We also played a rousing game of Bunco and then had Bingo in the evening. Friday brought Church followed by Pretty Nails in the afternoon. There is Sit & Be Fit on Saturday to work off some of those pie calories, followed by Bingo and Turkey Races.

Sunday brings a word association game using the letters THANK. There is an East or West game on Monday morning and then the residents will be treated to a Lefse Making demonstrations. Newscurrents is on the schedule for Tuesday morning and we will finish making and of course taste testing that lefse in the afternoon. Molly will be bringing in some more junque for Down Memory Lane on Wednesday – the residents sure enjoy seeing and reminiscing about some of those long-forgotten items like a rotary telephone or cabbage (slaw) slicer and a sausage grinder. We celebrate Thanksgiving on Thursday with some Turkey Day Trivia and then we will be Remembering the Macy’s Parade plus there is Bingo in the evening. Friday brings Church and Pretty Nails.

We have one resident birthday next week – Neil MacFarlane on November 21st. There are three staff birthdays coming up Amanda Landa and Jessica Serr on November 20th and Christine Nesheim on November 22. Happy Birthday to all of you and enjoy your special day!!!

Our sympathy to the friends and family of Viola Rygh who passed away November 12. Viola was with us a short time but she enjoyed visiting with staff, playing games, and listening to music and TV in her room. Rest in Peace Viola.

Until next time … a thought for the week … A person’s most useful asset is not a head full of knowledge, but a heart full of love, an ear ready to listen and a hand willing to help others ….
