Greetings from “The Home” front …
We have a few thank you’s to SHOUT OUT this week. On Sunday the Bruflat Lutheran Church WELCA came and served root beer floats to everyone. They also had Elroy Lindaas and Lute Simley play and sing in the courtyard – a good time was had by all! Another thank you to the staff who worked on Sunday and transported residents to the courtyard so everyone could enjoy the music. Thank you to the Bruflat WELCA for organizing this event! Also thank you to Harriet Schmidt who provides patriotic quilts for our veterans. Mike Strand was the recipient of a beautiful quilt this week. Thank You Harriet for sharing your quilting talents with us.
We played Bunco on Monday, then had a Resident Council meeting followed by Bingo in the evening. Tuesday June 14 was Flag Day so we celebrated by making flags from popsicle sticks during Crafts. Prior to crafts there was Newscurrents and then Andrea shared Fun Flag Facts. I am so glad that I worked on Wednesday as the residents were able to order take out from the B&B Restaurant (yum!). Prior to the noon meal, Pastor Bob offered Catholic Mass and Lysa played piano for Choir. Then during Kitchen Capers in the afternoon Lysa, ChiChi and the residents made cake pops – they even saved some for me as I was off shopping. Another fun event happened on Wednesday when Molly brought various antique items in a box. Residents reached in, picked out an item and then tried to guess what it was used for. Pastor Deb led Bible Study on Thursday, the ladies got their nails done during Pretty Nails and we also had a Cow Tipping Game later in the afternoon and Bingo in the evening. Thank heavens the cows being tipped were made of paper and residents tried to mow them down with a ball, all the while trying to miss paper tractors and other farm items. Lots of laughter with that one! On Friday we had Church and TGIF Happy ½ hour. There is Sit & Be Fit on Saturday, along with Bingo and then ChiChi will be doing makeovers for the ladies.
We will celebrate Father’s Day on Sunday with a Father’s Day Game. On Monday there is Men’s Club plus a Van Trip around Portland/Mayville to see the sights. We also have Who Am I Trivia and Bingo in the evening. Summer Begins on Tuesday June 21. We have Newscurrents in the morning and then what reminds you more of summer than ICE CREAM! We will be celebrating the first day of summer by making ice cream in the activity room! There is also an Ice Cream Detective game later in the day. On Wednesday there will be Catholic Mass in the morning, followed by Name That Tune, then Crafts and Kitchen Capers. Not sure what Molly has in mind for crafts or what Lysa and ChiChi will be making during Kitchen Capers but am sure both will be fun! There is a Mexico Dice Game on Thursday, followed by Pretty Nails and a activity experience called Discover Your Senses plus Bingo in the evening. After Church on Friday our friends from the American Legion/VFW will be back on Friday for Legion $$$ Bingo.
We have two resident birthdays next week – Terry Anderson on June 22 and Caroline Tunseth on June 23. Staff member Heather Fyfe has her birthday on June 21st. Two activity assistants will also be celebrating their birthdays – Molly Lenaburg on June 20th and Deb Sletten on June 24th. Happy Birthday to all of you and enjoy your special day!
Until next time … a thought from Henry Wadsworth Longfellow: It takes less time to do a thing right than it does to explain why you did it wrong …. Have a great week everyone!
