Greetings from “The Home” front …
Mother Nature smiled down upon us on Monday when we took some of the residents down to Rainbow Gardens to enjoy the beautiful flowers and sculptures. In addition to the flowers, the fairy garden and chimes were a definite favorite. We also enjoyed ice cream while sitting under the shady trees. Special thank you to our volunteers who helped push wheelchairs and walk with residents so that everyone had a chance to see the various gardens. They were: Linda Strand, Janice Erickson, Linda Kaldor, Ina Paulson, and Janice Hoyt.
In case you were wondering what the two sheriff’s cars and ambulance were doing at LMH on Monday it was a meeting for emergency preparedness! It is important to have a plan in place and to coordinate it with our local law enforcement and EMTs if there ever was an emergency. It did give several people a concern to see them all there at one time!!!
Tuesday, after Sit & Be Fit in the morning, it was the Auxiliary Birthday Party with Gran as the hostess. The residents got to enjoy a special musical treat when Lane Lindseth came to play his accordion and the piano. He is a very talented young man and we hope he will return real soon. In addition to the musical “treat” the ladies also served an edible “treat” of white cake with fruit topping and whipped cream. Wednesday was choir in the morning and crafts in the afternoon, then played bunco later on. Thursday brought reading with Elaine in the morning followed by pretty nails and ice cream cones on the patio. After church on Friday the American Legion/VWF were here to play “money” bingo – this is a popular activity and our dining room is usually full. On Saturday there is coffee in the morning and crosswords at 2 p.m. in the afternoon. Our Saturday movie matinee at 3 p.m. is “Hachi – A Dog’s Tale”. It stars Richard Gere as a college professor who rescues a puppy on a snowy night and the love and respect between them. There is also Kaffee Hus on Saturday and Sunday from 2-3:30. A special thank you to Elva Carlson and Caroline Tunseth who filled in last Sunday at Kaffee Hus so that our residents and guests could still enjoy coffee and goodies. Elaine will also be here on Sunday for a 2 p.m. activity – the residents will be going to the “horse races”.
Next week the van is taking residents to the Goose River Heritage Center (ie Museum). This was a request made during resident council and I know the residents will enjoy reminiscing when they see all the “old” items. There is also newscurrents in the morning and bingo in the evening. We have Sit & Be Fit on Tuesday morning and Rhythm Band in the afternoon. Wednesday (August 1st already!) - there is Name That Tune in the morning and special entertainment in the afternoon when the Ebenezer Vacation Bible School students come to visit and perform. We have Men’s Bible Study on Thursday morning and Betty & Leonard Wahl will be here to sing and play for us in the afternoon. Friday brings Church in the morning – a picnic in the shelter for dinner time and then pretty nails and bunco in the afternoon.
We have four staff birthdays to finish out the month of July – Rahni Smith on July 28th, Sharon Domier and Abbie Beck on July 30th and Kyle O’Brien on July 31st. There are no resident birthdays next week but we have two staff members celebrating the first week of August- Shayla Fossum on August 2 and Genelle Dale on August 3rd. Happy Birthday to all of you and enjoy your special day!
Until next time … a thought for the week … you are never too old to set another goal or dream a new dream…
