Greetings from "The Home" front …
We have had a busy week here at LMH even with the continuing snow, although everyone is getting anxious to be outside. The courtyard always looks so pretty with the flowers but it looks like we will have to wait a little longer to plant them.
On Monday, after the food committee meeting and newscurrents, the residents made Strawberry Short Cake Truffles during Kitchen Cappers - oh my - the truffles were yummy! Tuesday brought Sit & Be Fit in the morning (we needed that after all those truffles) and Rhythm Band in the afternoon. The residents played real bingo on Wednesday and then Mary and her quilting gang were here to spend time with us in the afternoon. They always have a super fun project to work on and the residents enjoy their visits. We had a special treat (with no calories!) on Thursday when the Second Wind Band from Grand Forks came to play for us. The group is composed of former high school musicians who have gotten together later in life to bring music to nursing homes, senior centers and hospitals. It is sponsored by Poppler's Music and our residents certainly enjoyed the performance. A very special thank you to the musicians who came to play for us. After church on Friday we had special visitors when Joel & Sue Pietz brought their fainting goats. The residents loved seeing and petting the animals especially the baby ones. Joel is a CNA here and Sue is our evening receptionist - when you see them, say a special thank you for bringing such enjoyment to our residents. We have crosswords on Saturday at 2 p.m. in the activity room and Kaffee Hus from 2-3:30 in the dining room. Our Saturday movie matinee is "Affairs of the Heart - volume 1".
Next week we have newscurrents on Monday morning and we will be playing cards and board games in the afternoon. There is Sit & Be Fit and Rhythm Band on Tuesday. Nancy will be playing Name That Tune on Wednesday and there is crafts with Molly in the afternoon. The residents will have the opportunity to "order out" food from the Pizza Shop for dinner on Thursday. We also have Bible Study in the morning and will be serving popcorn in the afternoon. Later on there is Beach Ball Benders and Bingo in the evening. Not sure what Beach Ball Benders is but visions of sandy beaches and ocean waves are certainly better than acres of snow. Friday brings church, pretty nails and happy 1/2 hour.
We have three resident birthdays next week - Connie Strand on April 14, Delores Paulson on April 18 and Mary Lou Aamold on April 19th. Sun Center Resident Marv Callahan has his birthday April 16th. We also have two staff members with birthdays next week Kiana Meyer on April 15 and Ester Gamez Pleune on April 18th. Happy Birthday to all of you and enjoy your special day!
We were saddened by the passing of resident Marvin "Otto" Hoel on April 8th. Otto enjoyed visiting with staff, listening to music and hearing devotions. Rest in Peace, Otto - you will be missed.
Until next time … a thought for the week … I received this "message" in my fortune cookie last week and felt it worth sharing with you …. Think about it …. "When you're finished changing, you're finished".
Make it a good week everyone!!!
