Greetings from "The Home" front …
Many of our residents took advantage of the lovely weather earlier this week and went outside to enjoy the patio and courtyard. They all agreed that it was great to get out and smell the fresh air.
We have a correction to an article in last week's Tribune - Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church members have been volunteering at LMH for many years. We appreciate their commitment and apologize that their name was omitted from the article about volunteers. Thank you OLP!
Elaine Klath was here on Tuesday to play for Rhythm Band. There was lots of toe tapping and clapping to the music. Pam played guitar and sang during Name that Tune on Wednesday. Special thanks to Elaine and Pam who provided music while Nancy was away this week. To get in the Springtime mood - on Wednesday afternoon the residents used silk flowers to create pictures for their rooms or doors. Later on we also played a rousing game of Bunco. We had Men's Bible Study on Thursday morning and then we took the van for shopping at Dollar General. The van returned with many shopping bags so it looks like the residents had a good time. Later on we reminisced with Youthful Memories and played bingo in the evening. There was church with communion on Friday morning and in the afternoon we celebrated Cinco de Mayo a day early with Fiesta Happy 1/2 hour. Saturday brings coffee in the morning and Real Bingo in the afternoon. We also have Kaffee Hus from 2-3:30 in the dining room. Our Saturday movie matinee is "Miracle Dogs". It is the story of Zack, a young boy, who finds two dogs in the woods and brings them home. It turns out the dogs have magical healing powers that change the people of a small town. Sound like a good movie!!!
As I mentioned above, several staff members spent part of the week at the Long Term Care Convention in Bismarck. They came back with lots of new ideas and enthusiasm to share with staff and residents.
On Sunday, many of the churches in Portland/Mayville are celebrating "God's Hands Our Work". Some of those people will be coming to LMH to visit and be with our residents. Marlene Johnson, organist at Bruflat Lutheran will be doing a special concert at 2 p.m. in the chapel. Be sure to mark your calendar to attend this great concert.
Next week we start out with newscurrents on Monday morning and then at Kitchen Cappers the residents will be making individual fruit pizzas. There is Sit & Be Fit and Rhythm Band on Tuesday. After Resident Council on Wednesday, Mary and her quilting gang with be here to spend time with the residents. The Peter Boe 3rd graders are coming for their final visit of the year with their "adopted" grandparents. We usually have a party and balloon release. We have a special program planned for Friday after church. In honor of Mother's Day and women everywhere - we are having our Celebration of Women event. Invitations have been sent and we hope you can attend. While the women are celebrating in the dining room, we will be showing a Friday movie in the activity room. "Wild West Outlaws" is a documentary about frontiersmen and outlaws in the late 1800s.
We have no resident birthdays next week but several staff members are celebrating their special day. Nicole Lee and Caitlin Johnson have birthdays on May 5th; Danielle Johnson on May 6th, Susan Hoyt and Floyd Aune on May 9th and Emily Erickson on May 10th. Happy Birthday to all of you and enjoy your special day!
Until next time … a thought for the week … one of the biggest mistakes you can make in life is to be continually fearing that you will make one …
