Greetings from “The Home” front …
We are getting back into a routine again – it feels so good!!! The visitor restrictions have been lifted so friends and family are welcome to visit their loved ones – HOWEVER, if you don’t feel well, think you might be getting a cold, or even have a cough or sniffles – please wait until you are feeling better to come visit! We don’t want to go through the “lock down” again!
On New Year’s Day Sandy was here to do Newscurrent’s in the morning and New Year’s Wheel of Fortune in the afternoon. I am sure Pat & Vanna were off someplace nice and warm as they did not show up for the game. Tuesday was Sit & Be Fit in the morning – it felt good to stretch those muscles after being in our rooms for so long and there was Rhythm Band in the afternoon. We had reminiscing about snow on Wednesday morning and the crafty ladies (and men) made folding snowmen as a project in the afternoon. Nancy played the piano for Name That Tune on Thursday and we said good bye to our Christmas decorations until next year. Thank you to the residents who helped us pack them up. Friday brings church in the morning and pretty nails and happy ½ hour in the afternoon. There is Bingo on Saturday at 2 p.m. in the activity room and Kaffee Hus (Hurrah!) from 2-3:30 in the dining room. Our Saturday video is Art Linkletters “Kids Say the Darndest Things”. I remember that program and kids really do say some embarrassing stuff!!! Mr. Linkletter had a way of bringing out the “best” of the kids he talked with. Of Course we will also be cheering for NDSU as they play in the Championship game. Go Bison….
Valley Free Church will be here on Sunday for a musical event in the chapel at 2 p.m. On Monday there is a Food Committee meeting, then Newscurrents in the morning. We will be having a Penmanship Class in the afternoon – hmm, that sounds interesting. Do they even teach penmanship anymore in school? Tuesday we are having a RUMMAGE SALE! It is open to the public from Noon-2:30 – stop on over for some great bargains!!! Mary and her gang of quilters are back for another year – we are so glad to have them! They will be here on Wednesday afternoon. Later in the day we will be playing Table Hockey which is an absolute hoot! It is played with Swiffer Dusters! Our Peter Boe 3rd Graders are joining us again on Thursday for a visit with their “adopted” grandparents – it will be fun to hear about their Christmases. On Friday there is church in the morning and there will be special music by Leonard and Betty Wahl at 2 p.m. The Bethany ladies will be serving Yule kaka Bread made by the famous Soholt Bakery. Did you know Soholt Bakery is celebrating 100 years in 2018. Here is to many more years…..
Our residents received a wonderful surprise from Mrs. Harrison’s 5th grade class in Cottage Grove, MN – her students made door ornaments for our resident. Finely Sharon students also made decorations for our each of our residents – thank you to both groups for thinking of us. The decorations sure will brighten up our January.
Last week we also celebrated a special birthday when we had a party for Bessie Ulland – she turned 100 on December 29th. Congratulations Bessie – may you celebrate many more!
We also have new employee – Laura Rasmussen has been hired as our new social worker. Welcome aboard Laura.
Our sincere sympathy to the family and friends of Eunice “Mick” Hamms who passed away December 31. Mick enjoyed listening to music, getting hand massages and hearing devotions. Rest in Peace Mick.
We have two resident birthdays next week – Barbara Hettervig on the 9th and Marsall Weibye on the 12th. Several staff members also celebrate birthdays next week including Kiana Ishikawa (Jan 9th), Marc Eastman (Jan 10), Inez Olson (Jan 11) and Katie Sayler (Jan 12). Happy Birthday to all of you and enjoy your special day!
