Greetings from The Home” front …
What a nice Veterans Day Program we had on Monday. Special thank you to the American Legion/VFW Color Guard for posting of the colors and several flags representing the different branches of the Service, also including the POW flag, to Marion Johnson who provided such inspiring music for the sing-along and to Rebecca Hodgson, Traill County Veterans Service officer who gave reading about coins on a soldiers grave and what they mean. Thank you to the VFW/Legion Auxiliary for the cake. I know our veterans and those in attendance appreciated all the effort that went into this event.
I was surprised to learn that we have 27 veterans living here at Luther Memorial Home and in the Sun Center Assisted Living Apts plus two additional veterans who are on our staff. Thank you to the following people who served our country: Dan Walden, Wes Laughery, Gary Nickel, Eivind Lindseth, Marv Callahan, Gene Kjos, Terry Anderson, Dale Wamstad, Eugene Boedekker, Gerald Storebo, Curtis Dokken, Kim Plank, Herb Vosper, Ardell Lovejoy, LeRoy Brenna, Vern Willeson, John Rosvold, Walter Rindy, Ken Eken, Dave Anderson, Ken Brustad, George Brustad, Hadley Verwest, Stuart Neset, Alan Holt, and Norman Bakke. Staff members: Genelle Dale and Floyd Aune.
In additional to the Veterans program on Monday we also had a Food Committee meeting and Newscurrents in the morning and cards and bingo in the afternoon and evening. It was a busy day! Tuesday brought Sit & Be Fit in the morning followed by Rhythm Band later on in the day. There was Resident Council Wednesday morning and then Molly and the resident crafters made a paper strip pumpkin that could either be a greeting card or a wall hanging. We thought Pat or Vanna might be here for Thanksgiving Wheel of Fortune on Thursday but alas – they were busy elsewhere. The Peter Boe 3rd graders stopped by in the afternoon to visit with their “adopted” grandparents – that is always such a fun time when everyone gets together. The Valley Music Makers under the direction of Melany Joerger gave their fall recital in the chapel later in the day just before supper. The children always do such a great job and the residents enjoy seeing and hearing them perform their piano pieces. Thanks for thinking of us each year. There was Mass and Church on Friday followed by Pretty Nails and Happy ½ hour in the afternoon. Hmmmm we have a very interesting Saturday planned this week – there is Pass the Pig in the morning and Turkey Bingo in the afternoon – both events in the activity room. Plus Kaffee Hus from 2-3:30 in the dining room on both days.
Pam will be here on Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. with her guitar for a Sing A—Long. Monday brings Newscurrents in the morning and Kitchen Cappers in the afternoon. The resident cooks will be making Fudge in a Bag. Oh YUM!! Men’s Club meets later in the day. There is Sit & Be Fit Tuesday morning and Rhythm Band in the afternoon. Nancy will play the piano for Name That Tune on Wednesday and then we have Bunco later in the day. Pastor Diane will be here for her final Bible Study Thursday morning and then it’s Pretty Nails and Fun Facts about Turkeys planned for the afternoon. Of course, there is Bingo in the evening. Friday morning will also be Pastor Dianne’s final church service here at LMH – we will miss her. She is taking a call to a 3-point parish in southern North Dakota. We wish you all the best Pastor Dianne. In the afternoon it will be $$$ bingo with the American Legion/VWF – there is always a big turnout for that!
There are some upcoming events so be sure to mark your calendar. We will have a special Thanksgiving Church Service on Wednesday November 27th at 10:30 in the chapel. Sunday December 8th is our festive Hanging of the Greens at 2 p.m. There will also be a bake sale from 1-3 – everyone is welcome. In conjunction with MayPort Winterfest – we are having our Cookie Sampler on Friday December 13th at 2 p.m. The community is invited to stop by and taste a few homemade cookies – vote for your favorite – and spend some time with your friends and family. Everyone is welcome.
We have one resident in Sun Center who is having a birthday this next week – Alan Holt on November 18th. Three staff members will also be having birthdays – Amanda Landa and Jessica Serr on November 22 and Christine Nesheim on November 22nd. Happy Birthday to all of you and enjoy your special day!
Our sympathy to the friends and family of Avis Van Wenchel who passed away November 9th. Avis was a well-known member of the community. She enjoyed musical activities, visiting with friends and family and hearing devotions.
Until next time … a thought for the week…. Give thanks for a little and you will find a lot.
