Greetings from “The Home” front …
A big THANK YOU to everyone who came and supported our Pie Day celebration and Silent Auction. We had a good turnout with a great selection of pies and silent auction items. We appreciate your dedication to Luther Memorial Home and couldn’t do it without a supportive community.
Well, Mother Nature is still showing us who is boss! We had to postpone our planned trip to Rainbow Gardens on Monday because of the extreme heat and humidity. No one wants to be outside in that kind of weather. Instead of the planned trip, the residents stayed inside and enjoyed a variety of board games, put puzzles together and others colored adult coloring sheets. There was also Newscurrents in the morning and card playing in the afternoon. We had Sit & Be Fit Tuesday morning and Rhythm Band in the afternoon. Nancy played the piano for choir Wednesday morning and then the residents reminisced about “Going to the Lake”. Molly brought pictures of her parent’s summer cabin purchased back in 1936 for a mere $500 and ordered unassembled from Sears & Roebuck! The residents shared fond memories of trips they took to various lakes. We also had lemonade on the patio. On Thursday morning the residents again shared memories during Down Memory Lane. Thank you to the Central Valley Parish Bible School students who sang for our residents and Tenants of Sun Center. Then it was time for our Pie Day celebration – there were lots of good pie choices and everyone had a good time. After Mass and Church on Friday it was time for pretty nails and Happy 1/2 hour. There is 5 square Saturday morning in the activity room and bingo, also in the activity room, at 2 p.m. Don’t forget Kaffee Hus from 2-3:30 in the dining room on both Saturday and Sunday.
Monday brings Newscurrents in the morning and a sightseeing van trip in the afternoon. Other residents will be playing cards and there is bingo in the evening. Oh my – it’s time for the Auxiliary Birthday party on Tuesday afternoon. Where does the time go???? Gran Church will be our hostess. In preparation for those delicious desserts that Gran always serves, there is Sit & Be Fit in the morning. The residents will be guessing song titles during Name That Tune on Wednesday morning. Later it’s pretty nails and sodas on the patio. It’s time for a little gambling Thursday morning when we play Black Jack. Andrea and the staff have arranged a Petting Zoo for the afternoon. We will have several animals including chickens, goats, dogs and maybe even a miniature horse for the residents to pet, cuddle and enjoy. The American Legion/VFW will be here on Friday afternoon to play $$$ bingo. Prior to that there is Mass and Church plus a picnic in the shelter. What a fun day!
We have three resident birthdays next week – Donna Bakkum on the 20th, Norma Asp on the 21st and Gladys Fugleberg on the 25th. Also, three staff members will be celebrating their big day – Dana Norman on the 20th, Heather Champine on the 25th and Julie Winger on the 26th. Happy Birthday to all of you and enjoy your special day!
Until next time … a thought for the week … If you’re going to be thinking – you might as well think BIG!
