Greetings from “The Home” front ….
Ahhh – the last week of February and then a new (warmer???) month begins! We have been busy here at “the Home” despite the weather …
Monday brought newscurrents and card and board games. We also played a word association game called Three of the Same. It was Sit & Be Fit on Tuesday morning and then Bruflat Church was hostess for the February Auxiliary birthday party. Elroy Lindaas came and played his guitar and sang for us – what a treat! Speaking of treats – the ladies served an angel food cake dessert with fruit and a whipped mixture in individual cups – can’t beat that. Nancy led choir on Wednesday morning and in the afternoon, Mary and her quilting gang came to work on that cute scotty dog quilt with our residents. It is really starting to take shape and soon will be hanging in the activity room. The men played 3-5-4 during Men’s Club on Thursday morning and then Lisa did a cooking demonstration using her InstaPot – what a marvelous invention – SO FAST!!!! We also had reminisce and bingo in the evening. Friday brought Mass and Church in the morning followed by pretty nails and happy ½ hour in the afternoon. There is reminisce and bingo on Saturday and our 3 p.m. movie matinee is a wildlife video entitled “The Trials of Life”.
A special thank you to DeeVanRuden who filled in for Father Chacko last week when he called in ill. You did a great job Dee – thank you so much. Also, a special thank you to Marion Johnson and Myrna Lyng who provide piano and flute music for our Lutheran Church Services following mass.
Aurdal Church provided lap robes for our residents – everyone enjoyed cuddling up in them especially during this cold weather. Thank you for thinking of us.
Next week we have newscurrents on Monday morning followed by Card and Board Games and then a new activity – Painting! I know we have some budding artists among our residents and it will be fun to see what they do. It’s Mardi Gras time on Tuesday with special music by Dan Lee. Dan also puts on a great show and we are looking forward to it. It’s Ash Wednesday already and we will have an Ash Wednesday service at 10:30 in the chapel. In the afternoon the residents are going to try shamrock stamping using marshmallows. I have seen the finished pictures and they are cute. Pastor Diane is here for Bible Study on Thursday morning and then at Kitchen Cappers in the afternoon we will be making Deviled Eggs. Bunco is also on the schedule. Friday brings Mass, church, popcorn and pretty nails. It’s a full, fun, busy week!
We would like to introduce a new member to our staff – Jeff Chandler was hired as a maintenance person/driver. We look forward to having him with us. Welcome aboard Jeff!
Sadly, we have lost three residents these past two weeks – our sympathy goes out to the friends and family of Mike Knudson, Bessie Ulland and Lucy Fenske. Mike was with us briefly and spent time visiting with friends, family and staff. Bessie was a long-time resident who enjoyed helping with folding, music activities especially name that tune and visiting with others. Lucy, the mother-in-law of our RN Kori Fenske, also enjoyed helping fold, attending music events, reminisce and crafts. Rest in peace Mike, Bessie and Lucy – you will be missed.
On a happier topic – we have two resident birthdays next week – Alice Stand will be 101 on March 2 and Marion Ronholm also has her birthday on March 2nd. Marlys Hlavinka’s birthday is March 4th and Robert Aasen’s I March 6th. Both Marlys and Robert resident in Sun Center. Staff member Wanda Freadrich has a March 1st birthday, Marcus Dale has his on March 4th and Jennifer Almanza and Sabrina Amundson share theirs on March 7th. Happy Birthday to all of you and enjoy your special day!
Emmet the bear received many giggles and smiles from residents and staff of Luther Memorial Home on a recent visit. The question of the day was; how much would a bear that size cost? Thank you Chaplain Diane Krumm for bringing Emmet for a visit.
Until next time … a thought for the week … try to be a rainbow in someone’s cloud ….
