Greetings from ”The Home” front ….

I hope all of you had a wonderful Thanksgiving and that you are still enjoying those turkey leftovers. We had a delicious Thanksgiving meal here at LMH – a feast with all the trimmings. Thank you to the kitchen staff who helped prepare and serve it.

There was Newscurrents Monday morning and some of the residents played cards in the afternoon. We also a special treat in the afternoon when we held our Pumpkin Spice Social. The residents enjoyed pumpkin spice lattes and also various flavored potato chips. We also tried to Pin the Feather on the Turkey. And of course, there was bingo in the evening. Immanuel Lutheran hosted the Auxiliary Birthday Party on Tuesday. The entertainment was great as were the treats they served. Before that, we had Sit & Be Fit in the morning. Good things after all those desserts. There was a Thanksgiving Church Service on Wednesday morning and then crafts later on. The residents made snowflakes out of clothespins. On Thanksgiving Day Molly was here for an activity on “What Thanksgiving Means to Me” – the residents shared their thoughts on the subject. Most of them were thankful for family, good friends, health and a caring place to live. There was also bingo in the evening. Friday brought a new activity entitled “What’s in the Bag” and then Paul Swanstrom brought his wonderful music to the home. The residents enjoyed listening to him play and there was plenty of clapping and toe tapping. We are planning a Bean Bag Toss on Saturday along with Bingo in the afternoon. Don’t forget Kaffee Hus on both Saturday and Sunday from 2-3:30 in the dining room. We also have our Saturday Movie Matinee at 3 p.m. in the activity room.

Next week begins December and we are getting geared up for the holidays. The staff at LMH will be busy decorating. There are so many upcoming events it’s hard to list them all. On Sunday (December 8) is the first of our many – Hanging of the Greens. Family and Friends are invited to this festive event and are encouraged to help their family member with decorating their rooms. A brief program will start at 2 p.m. , followed by assorted cookies and coffee. The Auxiliary ladies are hosting a bake sale is from 1pm - 3 pm. Everyone is welcome. Monday is newscurrents followed by cards and a Christmas Movie (Christmas Comes to Willow). And there is bingo in the evening. We have Sit & Be Fit on Tuesday morning and Holiday Rhythm Band in the afternoon. Nancy is playing Name That Christmas Tune on Wednesday morning and then we have Bunco in the afternoon. Our 3 p.m. Wednesday movie is Abbot & Costello. There will be Bible Study Thursday morning and Santa Races in the afternoon. (I hope we don’t tire him out before Christmas!) We have another holiday movie planned at 3 pm (Fireside Christmas) and Bingo in the evening. Friday is a special event at church when we have our Blue Christmas Service – it is a time to remember our residents and friends who passed away this year. Everyone is welcome to attend. The service begins at 10 a.m. Later in the afternoon it’s pretty nails and happy ½ hour.

We have two resident birthdays next week – Margaret Gunderson on December 2nd and Ardie Lovejoy on December 4th. Marian Johnson in Sun Center Apts has her birthday on December 5th. And two staff members also have birthdays next week- Samantha Berry (December 1st) and Mary Turpin (December 4th). Happy Birthday to all of you and enjoy your special day!

Our sympathy goes out to the friends and family of Marv Callahan who passed away November 18th. Marv was with us briefly as a resident but spent time here as the bingo caller with the American Legion/VFW when they came to play $$$ bingo every month. While a resident here Marv enjoyed visiting with friends and family and hearing devotions. He was a true gentleman – may you rest in peace Marv.

Until next time – a thought for the week about Gratitude – help us to see what is there instead of what isn’t
