Greetings from “The Home” front …

Well, the snow is still here but we haven’t let that stop us from having fun. We started off this busy week with newscurrents on Monday morning and then played card and board games in the afternoon. Several of our residents also tried their hand at painting - their creations turned out lovely with several different themes. This was a popular activity and we have many budding artists. Tuesday brought Sit & Be Fit in the morning and then a Fat Tuesday Mardi Gras celebration later on. Dan Lee was here to entertain and several staff and residents dressed in their finest Mardi Gras outfits. Dan always puts on a good show and this one was no exception. Pastor Diane led our Ash Wednesday church service and then our crafty ladies (and men!) did shamrock stamping using marshmallows! Believe it or not – they turned out great and looked just like a shamrock should! There was Bible Study with Pastor Diane on Thursday morning followed by Kitchen Cappers in the afternoon. Our resident cooks each made their own deviled eggs – always a good and healthy snack. We had mass and church on Friday morning and then popcorn and pretty nails in the afternoon. There is reading on Saturday morning and crosswords in the afternoon. There is also Kaffee Hus on both Saturday and Sunday from 2-3:30 in the dining room. Stop in and warm up with some hot coffee and a treat.

Daylight Savings Begins on Sunday March 10th! Elaine will stop by to play Wheel of Fortune at 2 p.m. and we have Lawrence Welk at 6 p.m. Monday starts out with a Food Committee meeting in the morning followed by Newscurrents, then Card and Board Games at 1:30. We are also having a social for our Veterans at 3:30 in the afternoon. There is Sit & Be Fit Tuesday morning with Rhythm Band in the afternoon. We have a Resident Council meeting on Wednesday morning and then Mary and her quilting gang will be here in the afternoon. The scotty dog quilt that the residents helped choose fabric squares for is almost done and now they are working on a new project. Last week, the residents picked out fabric to make a tote bag that can be carried by itself, or on a walker or wheelchair. Mary and the gang sure keep our residents busy with fun projects. Elaine will be Thursday morning for reading and then the Peter Boe 3rd graders come to visit their adopted grandparents in the afternoon. We missed them last month due to the flu and cold weather. We will also be playing Wheel of Fortune after the children’s visit and then Bingo in the evening. It’s mass, church, pretty nails and happy ½ on Friday.

We have two resident birthdays next week – Emma Thykeson on March 9th and Phyllis Dakken on March 11th. Sun Center Resident Willard VanWechel has his birthday also on March 11th. Three staff members celebrate next week- Jeric Houdek on March 10th, Kayla Hanson on March 11th and Xavier Simpson on March 14th. Happy Birthday to all of you and enjoy your special day!

We are saying “Good Bye” and “Happy Retirement” to long time RN Dawn Sparrow who will officially retire on March 6. Dawn has been employed at LMH since August of 1998. She said while she will miss everyone here, she is looking forward to spending time with her family. Best Wishes Dawn.

Until next time … a thought for the week … Believe in yourself. You are braver than you think, more talented that you know and capable of more than you imagine …
