Greetings from “The Home” front …

Luther Memorial Home would like to say THANK YOU to the Summerfest Committee for routing the Summerfest Parade past the nursing home. Our residents love parades and enjoyed it very much. Special thank you to our staff members and volunteers Pam Sedler, Mark Heskin and Linda Kaldor for helping residents outside to watch the parade, we couldn’t have done it without you.
What a great way to start the week – the Irving Eng family was here for a musical comedy concert on Sunday. The chapel was full and our residents and many visitors enjoyed a fabulous performance. Thank you again Engs for remembering us and please come back again soon!
There was newscurrents on Monday morning and cards and Bunco in the afternoon. We also had bingo in the evening. After Sit & Be Fit Tuesday morning, the ladies from Elm River hosted the Auxiliary Birthday Party for residents having June birthdays. They served yummy desserts and provided music by the Elroy Lindaas and Lane Lindseth. It was Name that Tune on Wednesday morning and then in the afternoon the residents painted watercolor pictures with various overlays. We also had noodle ball which was played with lots of laughter and giggling. Elaine read on Thursday morning and in the afternoon the ladies got their nails done. We also went out on the patio for lemonade. Friday brings Mass and Church in the morning and then the American Legion/VFW are here for Money Bingo – that always brings a full house to the dining room. There was also a picnic in the shelter with hamburgers, baked beans and watermelon – can’t get much better than that! Resident Kim Plank will be giving a program on Rattlesnakes on Saturday afternoon and in the morning, Elaine will be playing 5 square. There is also Kaffee Hus from 2-3:30 in the dining room on both Saturday and Sunday.

This was Father Philip Chacko’s last mass here at LMH as he will be moving to a new parish in Larimore. We wish him the best and welcome our new priest Father Robert Smith who will give mass next Friday.

Oh my Gosh – Monday is July 1st already!!!! There is news currents in the morning and cards in the afternoon. We also have kitchen cappers for our resident cooks – the ladies (and men) will be making red/white/blue tarts – they sound yummy! After eating all those tarts we will certainly need Sit & Be Fit on Tuesday and also, we will have a rousing game of bunco. There is reminisce on Wednesday morning when we will talk about our friends and friendship and then a special activity with Sandy (from Sandy’s Social Art) who will do a painting demonstration. She always makes it look so easy! Happy 4th of July on Thursday! We will be remembering the 4th in the morning and then enjoying Root beer Floats in the afternoon. 4th of July word games will also be available throughout the day. We will be back on schedule Friday with Mass and Church in the morning and pretty nails and happy ½ hour in the afternoon.

We have one resident birthday next week – Dorothy Halvorson on June 30 and one staff birthday - Carol Romaniuk’s birthday is July 1st. Happy Birthday Dorothy and Carol and enjoy your special day!

Our sympathy to the friends and family of Phyllis Dakken who passed away June 20th. Phyllis helped us with folding in the mornings and enjoyed our musical activities and visiting with staff and family. Rest in Peace Phyllis you will be missed.

Until next time … a thought for the week …the pessimist sees difficulty in every opportunity while the optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty …
