Greetings from “The Home” front …
Wow – that blizzard last week was a surprise – thank you AGAIN to all the staff who came in early and worked extra shifts to cover for others who couldn’t get here. Also thank you so Pam Sedler who, at the last moment, came over to play her guitar and have a sing-along with our residents when the Second Wind Band had to cancel due to weather conditions. The Band has been rescheduled for a concert in May so we will still get to enjoy their music.
We started out Monday with newscurrents and then the residents dyed Easter eggs in the afternoon. What pretty colors! There was also bunco later on and bingo in the evening. We had Sit & Be Fit on Tuesday morning and Rhythm Band in the afternoon. Nancy lead an Easter Sing A- long on Wednesday and Mary and her gang were here in the afternoon. Those walker/wheelchair bags with a Sun Bonnet Sue motif turned out absolutely fabulous! Pastor Dianne led a Maundy Thursday worship service with communion on Thursday morning and then we had a special musical treat when Leonard & Betty Wahl performed that afternoon in the dining room. We still had time for an Easter Egg hunt too! Friday brought Mass and Good Friday church services. We followed that with pretty nails and happy ½ hour. On Saturday, Molly will be here for reminisce – she always brings good “junk” to show! Plus, bingo in the afternoon. There is also Kaffee Hus from 2-3:30 on both Saturday and Sunday. Pastor Dianne returns for an Easter Sunday service at 2 p.m. in the chapel.
Next week we start out celebrating Earth Day on Monday with newscurrents in the morning and seed planting in the afternoon. After Sit & Be Fit on Tuesday it is time for the Auxiliary Birthday Party. Highland Church will be the hostess. Wednesday is Administrative Professionals Day and we thank Linda Knudsvig, Heather Satrom and Shelly Aune for all they do to keep LMH running smoothly. There is a lot of behind the scenes work they do for which we are most appreciative. Thank you again.Wednesday also bring choir in the morning and quilting with Mary and the gang in the afternoon. We are having a Beach Party on Thursday!! The residents will be playing Noodle Ball in the morning and we will have special 60s music by Steve Worner in the afternoon. Later on, there is pretty nails and bingo in the evening. It’s mass and church on Friday followed by bingo with the American Legion/VFW in the afternoon.
A special BIG THANK YOU goes out to Mark Heskin for sending us over 50 fantastically beautiful new Easter cards to be shared with the residents to use so they could mail greetings to their loved ones. The cards were from the Papyrus company and if you are familiar with them – you know they were spectacular. Thanks again Mark – the residents ooohed and aahed when they were choosing.
We were saddened by the death of two residents this past few weeks. Avis Karlstad passed away April 9th and Gudrun Harstad died April 13th. Avis was a sweet lady who enjoyed visiting with staff and reminiscing about favorite recipes she used to make. Gudrun was well known in the community and had only recently moved to LMH. She spent time working on her stamp project and visiting with staff. Rest in Peace Avis and Gudrun.
We have one resident birthday next week – Kim Plank on April 21. Three residents of Sun Center are celebrating birthdays – Arlene Beekman on April 21st, Bonnie Gehrke on April 22 and Pat Frost on April 23. Three staff members celebrate their birthdays on the same day – April 25th – Joann Studlien, Mathew Karolus and Jacob Sherva. I also apologize to Ester Gamez Pleune for missing her birthday which was April 18th – I hope it was a good one. Best wishes to everyone who has a birthday next week!
Until next time … a thought for the week … The most effective way to do it, is to do it!
