Greetings from “The Home” front …

I hope all of you had a great Easter! The nice weather sure helped too! A special thank you goes out to Elaine Klath who supplied music at our Maundy Thursday and Good Friday service; to Sarah Batesol who provided the music for our Easter Sunday service and to Chaplain Diane Krum who led all of our worship services Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.

We started out this fresh spring Monday which was also Earth Day with newscurrents and card and board games. To celebrate Earth Day the residents helped plant seeds which we hope, in a few weeks, will turn into plants for our courtyard. We will definitely be watching to see how they grow. Tuesday brought Sit & Be Fit in the morning and the Auxiliary Birthday party in the afternoon. Highland Church was the hostess and it’s a good thing we had exercises in the morning to work off some calories as the dessert was delicious and the music was wonderful. Wednesday was Administrative Professionals Day and a special thank you goes out to our Administrative staff for all the work they do behind the scenes to keep LMH running smoothly. There was choir in the morning and Mary and her gang were here in the afternoon. To celebrate the nice weather and to look forward to summer – we had a Beach Party on Thursday. Staff and residents dressed is colorful outfits and we had special music by Steve Worner. Steve plays that good old 60s music and had everyone tapping their feet and clapping their hands. The American Legion/VFW were here on Friday afternoon for “money” bingo which is always a popular activity. There was also mass and church in the morning. On Saturday Andrea will do some reminiscing and then the residents will play The Price is Right in the afternoon. There is also Kaffee Hus from 2-3:30 in the dining room on both Saturday and Sunday.

Speaking of Kaffee Hus – we have an opening for a Kaffee Hus Attendant. This is a great 2-hour job on alternating weekends. The perfect job for a student, retiree or anyone that would like to earn a few extra dollars doing a fun job. If you are dependable and like visiting with people please contact Lisa Nelson or Adam Edwards at LMH. We’d love to have you join us!

Next week Elaine starts us off on Sunday by playing 5 Square at 2 p.m. in the activity room. 5 Square is a word association game that is popular with our residents. On Monday, after newscurrents, our resident cooks will be cutting fresh veggies and making a dip during Kitchen Cappers. And of course, there is bingo in the evening. We have Sit & Be Fit and Rhythm Band on Tuesday plus setting up for our RUMMAGE SALE. Yes, we are having our BIG RUMMAGE SALE on Wednesday May 1st from 10:30 to 3:30p.m. This year we have so much stuff it will be held in the chapel. There are lots of good bargains so we hope to see you there. Pastor Diane will lead Bible Study on Thursday morning and in the afternoon the 2nd Wind Band will perform. We are looking forward to their concert and this time we hope to have good weather. Friday brings mass and church in the morning and then resident Kim Plank will do a Chemistry presentation on the topic of homemade ice cream. There is also pretty nails later in the afternoon.

Our sympathy to the friends and family of Grace Lien who passed away Easter morning. Grace was a sweet lady who enjoyed walking in the hallway visiting with residents and staff. She also enjoyed music and listening to devotions. Grace is the mother of Linda Strand who works in our kitchen. Rest in Peace Grace – you will be missed.

We have one staff birthday to finish out the month of April – Mindi Mehus on April 30th . Resident Eugene Boeddeker and staff member Mitch Krueger both have May 1st birthdays. Sun Center resident Gladys Chandler and staff member Curt Moen celebrate their birthdays on May 3rd. Happy Birthday to all of you and enjoy your special day!

Until next time … Count the rainbows in your life – not the storms.
