Greetings from “The Home” front …
Congratulations to our Best Peanut Butter Cookie baker – Sun Center Resident Pat Frost. Our team of judges (thank you Julie, Jeff & Mona) decided her cookie with an extra sugar topping was the best of our bakers. Coming in 2nd were the cookies made right here in our own LMH kitchen! Thank you to all of our staff who participated by baking and sharing your PBC recipe. I know the residents enjoyed sampling all the cookies during our social hour.
Monday afternoon started out with a big celebration honoring fathers – and what a party it was! The baseball themed gathering was a big hit – the decorations using vintage baseball cards and a dessert of cupcakes frosted to look like baseballs were perfect. Guest speaker was Matt Piker, Assistant Coach from Mayville State University. There was lots of laughter and visiting and it looked like the men were certainly enjoying themselves. Earlier in the day there was newscurrents and then bingo in the evening. Tuesday brought Sit & Be Fit (we needed it after Monday’s party) and rhythm band in the afternoon. Nancy played the piano for choir Wednesday morning and the Men’s Club met later on to work on pine box cars – remember those from days gone by? It was a busy Thursday as we started out with Bible Study with Pastor Dianne then a group of residents went to Dollar General for shopping. Afterward we celebrated with Happy ½ hour. There was Mass and Church on Friday morning and in the afternoon, we raced those pine box cars that the men worked on earlier in the week. The ladies also got their nails painted at Pretty Nails. Sandy will be here on Saturday to play the musical bells and also call the numbers for bingo in the afternoon. There is Kaffee Hus from 2-3:30 on both Saturday and Sunday in the dining room.
We have a special treat in store on Sunday afternoon in the chapel – the Irving Eng Family will be performing. Several residents know this family well and know they put on a great musical show. We look forward to having them perform. The event starts at 2 p.m. Monday brings newscurrents in the morning and then cards in the afternoon. The van is also going sightseeing in the afternoon so be sure to sign up early to get a seat. There is Sit & Be Fit Tuesday morning just to get in shape for the Auxiliary Birthday Party in the afternoon. Elm River Church is the hostess. We have Name That Tune on Wednesday morning and crafts in the afternoon. The residents will be doing a watercolor picture with animal overlay – should be fun and interesting. Elaine is here for reading on Thursday and we have pretty nails in the afternoon. Hopefully the weather will be nice so we can enjoy lemonade on the patio later on. There is Mass and Church on Friday morning and then the residents will have a picnic dinner in the shelter.. The VFW/American Legion will be here for Money Bingo in the afternoon. What a fun and full day!
We have two resident birthdays next week – Terry Anderson on June 22 and Irene Lindstrom on June 26th. Staff member Deb Sletten has her birthday on June 24th. Happy birthday to all of you and enjoy your special day! I also want to wish resident Marion Domier a belated Happy Birthday – Marion’s 100th birthday was on June 18th.
Our sympathy to the friends and family of two of our residents who passed away recently. Bernadette DeHaan died June 11 and Mae Karlstad on June 13th. Bernadette enjoyed visits from family and staff as did Mae. Mae especially enjoyed hearing devotions read to her. Bernadette’s service was held in Red Lake Falls while Mae had a service here at LMH on Tuesday. Rest in Peace Bernadette and Mae.
Until next time a thought for the week … Things work out best for those who make the best of how things work out …
