Greetings from “The Home” front …

Rain rain go away – come again some other day! Despite the weather there has been lots of activities going on here at LMH!

Monday started with newscurrents in the morning – a surprise fire drill (!)- and then Kitchen Cappers in the afternoon. At a previous Food Committee Meeting, the residents expressed a desire for fresh vegetables so that is exactly what we had – during Kitchen Cappers each resident made a fresh veggie plate and enjoyed them with a dilly dip or humus. Many had never tasted humus and were pleasantly surprised at how good it was! Later we had another pleasant surprise when Gary Kaldor stopped by to sing and play his guitar for us. Thank you so much Gary – you can’t imagine how appreciative we are! Tuesday was Sit & Be Fit and Rhythm Band. A huge Thank you to Elaine Klath for playing at Rhythm band, you sure can tickle the ivories. Marilyn Koppang, Donna Wilke and Bonnie Gerke helped us set up for our big rummage sale, thank you so much, we couldn’t have done it without you. After folding and coffee time on Wednesday morning it was time for the BIG SALE!!! We had so many treasures, the sale was held in the chapel to accommodate all the items. I hope you were able to come and find a bargain or two. The 2nd Wind Band returned for their much-anticipated concert on Thursday afternoon. This time there was no snow!!! In the morning Pastor Diane was also here for Bible Study. Friday brought mass and church and then resident Kim Plank gave a chemistry demonstration on making ice cream. Each resident in attendance got to enjoy a treat. Saturday is Kentucky Derby Day and the staff and residents are planning to dress in their finest hats for the occasion. We have horse races in the morning and then bingo in the afternoon. There is also Kaffee Hus from 2-3:30 in the dining room on both Saturday and Sunday.

We are still in need of a Kaffee Hus attendant – this is a fun position serving coffee and visiting with our residents on the weekend. If this sounds like a good fit for you – stop by and pick up an application! We’ve love to have you join our crew.

Next week we start out on Sunday with a visit from various church members in the community who will sing and visit with our residents as part of the Gods Work our Hands program. Monday, we have our first sightseeing trip in our new van. Be sure to sign up in the activity room. There is also resident council in the morning and music with Pam in the afternoon. Tuesday is National Teacher Day and we have several former teachers among our residents. There is Sit & Be Fit in the morning and Who Wants to be a Millionaire in the afternoon. We have news currents on Wednesday morning and then Mary and her gang will be here in the afternoon to do crafts. It’s reminisce Thursday morning and then the Peter Boe 3rd graders will be here for their final visit with their “adopted” grandparents – boy, the school year sure went fast! We also have Men’s Club and bingo in the evening. It’s mass and church on Friday morning and pretty nails and bunco in the afternoon.

There are three staff members are celebrating birthdays this week – Nicole Lee on May 5th and Susan Hoyt and Floyd Aune on May 9th. Happy Birthday to all of you and enjoy your special day!

Our sympathy to the friends and family of Jonovan Brothers who passed away April 27th– Rest in Peace Jonovan.
