Greetings from "The Home" front ...

It is warm and cozy and busy here at Luther Memorial Home which is more than I can say for the weather outside. Hopefully we will have an early spring this year!

There was newscurrents on Monday morning and a Martin Luther King program and observance in the afternoon. We also played cards and board games and had bingo in the evening. Tuesday brought Sit & Be Fit followed by the Auxiliary Birthday party. Ebenezer Church was the host and they provided a musical sing a long and assorted ice cream and sugar cookies for dessert, yum. Thank you to Marion Johnson who played the piano for the sing along. After choir on Wednesday, Mary and her quilting gang were here to work on those individual "mug rugs" with our residents. The mug rugs will be perfect as a coaster under a coffee cup and also have a place for your treat. Thursday was National Compliment Day and we started off with reading, then had popcorn and pretty nails. There was bingo in the evening. Friday brings mass and church in the morning and then the American Legion/VFW are here for money bingo - always a popular event and we get a big turnout. The residents will be doing "Brain Teasers" for our Saturday morning activity and then our 3 p.m. movie matinee is "Classic Cars - Mopars". This video highlights those famous cars from the 60's and 70's. There is Kaffee Hus from 2-3:30 on both Saturday and Sunday. We also serve coffee from 9-10 a.m. Monday through Saturday in the activity room - I can guarantee the cookies are delicious as I have taste tested all of them for you!

Next week we start out on Sunday with Wheel of Fortune at 2 p.m. in the activity room. It's newscurrents and cards/board games on Monday. We are also having snowman races later in the afternoon, and Bingo in the evening. There is Sit & Be Fit Tuesday morning followed by Rhythm Band in the afternoon. Nancy will be playing the piano for Name That Tune Wednesday morning and the residents will play Bunco in the afternoon. We will also be setting up for our Rummage Sale. The Rummage Sale will be Thursday January 31 in the activity room from 10:30 to 3 p.m. We have lots of great bargains and everyone is welcome. Come See what we have! There is also bingo in the evening. Friday it's Mass and Church in the morning followed by pretty nails and Happy ½ hour in the afternoon.

There are no resident or Sun Center birthdays next week but we have four staff members celebrating. Dawn Demarce on January 27, Makenzie Bring on January 28, Lucy Lindaas and Codi Krueger both on January 31. Happy Birthday to all of you and enjoy your special day!

We were saddened by four deaths in the past few weeks. Our sympathy to the friends and family of Duane Lyng, Connie Ihry and Lucille Weil. Duane passed away January 16th. He enjoyed reading the paper, listening to music and until recently working on hook rug projects. Connie, who died January 18th, was a big sports fan and enjoyed visiting with family and staff and watching her favorite teams on TV. Lucille passed away January 20th. She enjoyed visits from staff, listening to music and holding her sensory objects. Rest in Peace Duane, Connie and Lucille. You will be missed. We also send our sympathy to our evening receptionist, Sue Piatz, who lost her father recently.

Until next time, a thought for the week ... It's not whether you get knocked down - it's whether you get up ...
