Greetings from “The Home” front …

Mark your calendar! Our annual PIE DAY is fast approaching – Thursday July 18 from 2-3:30pm. In addition to delicious home-made pies there will be a silent auction of fantastically fabulous items generously donated by our area churches and also by friends and the staff of LMH. This is one of our largest fund raiser of the year so hope you can stop by and have some pie and ice cream and support your local nursing home.

Pam was here on Sunday for a sing along with our residents. She played and sang some of those old-time gospel hymns plus familiar favorite songs. Monday brought a food committee meeting in the morning plus newscurrents. There was cards in the afternoon and also a wedding shower for Courtney Savage who is getting married July 13th. Congratulations Courtney and Jacob. It was Sit & Be Fit on Tuesday morning and Rhythm Band later in the day. There was Resident Council Wednesday morning and Molly had the residents stamping and creating 3-dimensional greeting cards in the afternoon. Afterward we enjoyed Shirley Temple drinks on the patio. Pastor Leon from the Portland Lutheran Parish led Bible Study Thursday morning and we had a special musical treat when Larry Charron stopped by to perform in the afternoon. He always puts on a good show! Men’s club also met. We had Mass and Church on Friday morning followed by our Learn & Taste activity. We learned about Edamame! I have to admit I was hesitant at first to try it – but Edamame was actually pretty good! Really, it’s just a fancy name for a young soybean still in the pod.! There is reading, crosswords and Kaffee Hus on Saturday.

Ebenezer church will be here on Sunday afternoon to present a music program in the chapel. They always do such a wonderful job and really involve the children – our residents enjoy watching the little kids perform. After newscurrents on Monday some of the residents will be going on a van trip to see Rainbow Gardens. This is an annual event and the gardens look so beautiful this time of year. There is Sit & Be Fit and Rhythm Band on Tuesday. Nancy will lead Choir Wednesday morning and then we will reminisce about “going to the lake” in the afternoon. There will also be lemonade on the patio. It’s time for PIE DAY on Thursday but before that in the morning the residents will enjoy Down Memory Lane. We also have bingo in the evening. Friday brings Mass, Church, pretty nails and happy ½ hour.

We have one resident birthday next week – Happy Birthday to Gayle Brown on July 13th. Sun Center residents Andrew Berg and Helen Strand also have birthdays on July 13th. There are lots of staff birthdays next week – Shelly Aune (July11), Suzanne Olson (July 13), Anna Bradner (July 15), Jordan Eken and Jackie Ulrich on July 19th. Best wishes to all of you and enjoy your special day.

Our sympathy goes out to the friends and families of Helen Wenaas who passed away July 2nd, Marion Domier and Ardis Storebo who passed away July 8th. Helen enjoyed visiting with staff and others while also working on craft projects in her room. Marion who recently turned 100 enjoyed visits from family and staff, she also enjoyed church, music and rummage sales. Addis enjoyed visits from family and friends, she enjoyed a good card game, and watching sports on TV. Rest in Peace Helen, Marion and Ardis.

Until next time… a thought for the week …. Take the risk or lose the chance …
