Greetings from “The Home” front …
I hope all of you had a great Labor Day weekend. We were busy here at “the home” with lots of activities. There was 5 Square on Sunday and then on Monday the residents played Wheel of Fortune – alas, Pat and Vanna were not able to make it but we had fun anyway. To celebrate Labor Day, we reminisced about jobs that we had and what we liked and disliked about them. There was Bingo Monday evening. Tuesday brought Newscurrents and Rhythm Band. We also did a “Can You Picture This” story time later in the afternoon. Our residents certainly come up with interesting story lines for these pictures. On Wednesday we sang during Choir and then laughed and giggled during Bunco. Pastor Deb was here for Bible Study on Thursday morning plus we had Pretty Nails and Discover Nature outside in the afternoon. We also had Bingo in the evening. Pastor Deb was back for Church on Friday and then we had a special activity when we hosted a Fish Pond in the afternoon. Several residents went fishing and caught fun prizes in the pond. There is Sit & Be Fit, Bingo and a 9/11 video remembrance on Saturday.
Sunday September 12 is Grandparent Day – best wishes to all of our Grand and Great Grandparents who are our residents. Molly will be here to play crosswords with everyone in the afternoon. We are celebrating Homecoming next week with Pajama Day on Monday, Groovy Decades on Tuesday, Wacky Wednesday, Color War on Thursday and Sports Teams on Friday. Staff and residents are encouraged to join the fun with clothing appropriate for that particular day. There will be a Food Committee meeting on Monday followed by Reminiscing about Fall and then Cooking with Chi-Chi. Plus a Resident Council Meeting later in the day. On Tuesday its Newscurrents and Rhythm Band plus School Days Detective. Wednesday brings Name That Tune plus Crafts in the afternoon. We have Sewing Pass It On, Pretty Nails and Bell Coir on Thursday. The staff is also having a Potluck Event – all staff are encouraged to bring a “dish to pass”. Administration will provide pulled pork sandwiches. Oh yum – I always enjoy a potluck! There will be Church and Happy ½ hour on Friday.
We have several birthdays next week. Resident Esther Bring has a September 12 birthday and Stuart Mitchell’s birthday is September 15. Staff members will also be celebrating birthdays – Monica Ellingson and Susan Kellett on September 14th, Skyyla Johnson on September 15, Kathy Gangelhoff and Janet Nielson on September 16 and Nancy Bjerke on September 17th. Happy Birthday to all of you and enjoy your special day!
Our sympathy to the friends and family of Dorothy Heskin who passed away September 1st. Dorothy was a sweet lady who enjoyed listening to music, hearing devotions and receiving hand massages. Rest in Peace Dorothy – you will be missed.
Until next time … a thought for the week … There will always be someone who can’t see your worth. Don’t let it be you…
