LMH’s Valentine Queen, Loretta Wendlick throwing candy for the Summerfest Parade

Greetings from “The Home” front …

A big shout out THANK YOU to our staff and volunteers who helped transport residents to the Summerfest parade. We couldn’t have done it without your help. What a beautiful day to watch a parade – I know every single one of the residents that attended enjoyed themselves. Also enjoying herself was our Valentine Queen Loretta Wendlick who rode in the parade. She said she had a great time seeing the children and old friends from Finley and tossing out candy to everyone.

We welcomed a new resident to LMH on Tuesday – her name is “Princess” and she is a beautiful blonde. This 4-legged beauty comes from Service Dogs for American (part of the Great Plains Assistance Dogs Foundation) in Jud, North Dakota and will be our new therapy dog. Princess is a 4-year-old golden lab mix. She is just getting used to living here at LMH after 4 years of training. Stop by in a few weeks to welcome her.

The residents had Show & Tell on Monday Morning and then Nancy played the piano for Rhythm Band in the afternoon. Several people went outside for Patio Time to enjoy the nice weather and then there was Bingo in the evening. Tuesday brought Newscurrents and Board Games in the afternoon. We celebrated “Fishing Day” on Wednesday with Down Memory Lane in the morning – it was amazing how big some of those fish got in our memories. Molly brought old vintage Hunting & Fishing magazines from the 1940s and the residents enjoyed the old ads. We also had Fishing Trivia later in the day. Thursday, July 1st was International Joke Day so we celebrated with Jokes in the afternoon. Why can’t a nose be 12” long? (Because then it would be a foot). Pastor Deb was here for Bible Study in the morning and the ladies also got their nails done at Pretty Nails later in the day. Of course, there was Bingo in the evening. We celebrated July 4th a bit early and had a picnic in the shelter during dinner on Friday. Prior to that there was Church with Pastor Deb and after the picnic we had Happy ½ hour. Saturday brings Sit & Be Fit, Bingo and a Movie Matinee.

On Sunday, July 4th Molly will be here for activities on the Patio. Monday is Camping Day and we will Reminisce about our Camping Adventures. There is also Crafts in the afternoon plus Smores on the Patio and Bingo in the evening. We have Newscurrents on Tuesday morning followed by Rhythm Band and then Beach Day Detective. A new activity is planned for Wednesday morning called Star Categories – hmmm, will have to tell you about that in next week’s column. We will play my favorite game- BUNCO - in the afternoon plus going shopping for the residents. There is Choir on Thursday morning followed by Pretty Nails and then Lemonade on the Patio plus Bingo in the evening. We have Church on Friday and then music by the Wahls in the afternoon.

We are short on birthdays next week – no resident birthdays, no one in Sun Center has a birthday and only two staff members – Susan Henderson on July 6th and Erika Onerheim on July 8th. Happy Birthday to both of you and enjoy your special day.

Until next time … a thought for the week … from someone (ME!!!) who is definitely not “techie” -… life was much simpler when Blackberry and Apple were just fruits ….
