Greetings from “The Home” front ….

Happy Winterfest!! We have been celebrating Winter all week long here at LMH!

Monday, after Sit & Be Fit, we had Snowflake Word Games, Name the Snowman family and independent activities. Loretta Wendlick was the winner of the Snowflake Word Game – she was able to make over 30 words using the letters in “Snowflake”. How many words can you make??? We also had an opportunity for our residents to have their picture taken with our resident snowman. There was Newscurrents Tuesday morning followed by Snowball games and then everyone enjoyed SnoCones. Snow Shovel Races were on the agenda for Wednesday plus ice cream sundaes in the afternoon – I just love Wednesdays! Thursday brought Snowman races and pretty nails. We had virtual Mass and Church on Friday and played Winter Scatagories in the afternoon. Nancy is here for music on Saturday. We also have the coffee cart and treats going around every morning to serve that Norwegian “fuel” to our residents. The activity room is open to limited capacity so residents can stop by to enjoy a scheduled activity or to work on the puzzles, read the paper or just visit – as long as they observe social distancing.

Can you believe the month of January is already half over – where does the time go. We start out next week with Sit & Be Fit on Monday morning and then our residents will be writing letters to their Peter Boe 3rd grade pen pals. There is Bingo in the evening. On Tuesdays it’s Newscurrents in the morning and Rhythm Band with Nancy in the afternoon. Men’s Club meets Wednesday morning and then the residents will be doing crafts with Molly later on. Looks like they will be making a Snowman themed greeting card. Pastor Deb is here for Bible Study on Thursday followed by Pretty Nails and independent activities. And, of course, there is Bingo in the evening. We have virtual Mass and Church on Friday and then TGIF Happy ½ hour.
The residents of Luther Memorial Home and tenants of Sun Center received beautiful succulent plants for their rooms from the MSU Science Club under the direction of advisor Jeff Hovde. The plants are a wonderful addition to the resident’s room – thank you so much for thinking of us and for your community outreach. KFGO radio station also delivered a huge box of snack treats for the staff to enjoy. We appreciate everyone in the community and surrounding area who have thought about us during this difficult time.

Our sympathy goes out to the friends and family of Amos Kjorness who passed away January 7th and Dorothy Halvorson who died January 9th. Amos enjoyed reading the morning paper, listening to music and watching TV. He often reminisced about his life on the farm. Dorothy enjoyed singing with staff members, listening to music, getting hand massages and hearing devotions. Rest in Peace Amos and Dorothy. You will be missed.

We would also like to extend our sympathy to our administrator Brett Ulrich and his family on the passing of his father, Robert (Bob) Ulrich. Bob was residing in Arizona at the time of his death but will be missed by all his family members here in North Dakota. May God bless his memory.

We have one resident birthday this week – Kathy Thomas on January 20th. No Sun Center birthdays this week but watch for a BIG one coming up on the 24th. There are several staff members celebrating birthdays this week – Tariqa Alexander on January 17th, our Administrator Brett Ulrich shares a birth date with Rikka Edwardson on January 20th, as does Cindy Truhlicka, also on the 20th. Darrel Wilson’s birthday is January 22nd. Happy Birthday to all of you and enjoy your special day!!

Until next time … a thought for the week … Challenges are what make life interesting and overcoming them is what makes life meaningful …
