Greetings from "The Home" front...
I wish Mother Nature would make up her mind – our residents and staff are anxious to get outside for some fresh air. We had hoped to get some seeds planted in our outside courtyard planters, but it looks like it will be a few more weeks before we will be able to do that.
Again, I want to stress how LMH is being pro-active to protect all of its staff and residents during this covid-19 pandemic. In addition to restricting visitors and taking the precautionary screening, social distancing and staff wearing masks. As another level of precaution to keep our residents and staff safe and healthy, Luther Memorial Home contracted to have our building fogged killing bacteria and viruses. This was done on Friday, April 10th. Thank you to the administration for staying on top of things, keeping up with all updates and going above and beyond when looking out for our Luther Memorial Home Family.
The residents are keeping busy inside by doing crosswords, word search, sudoku and jigsaw puzzles. Many are checking out books from our library and watching videos in their rooms. The activity staff has been visiting each resident in their room to provide pretty nails, hand massages and visits. We also have been offering magazines, CDs and during Happy 1/2 hour – special treats like popcorn and fancy nonalcoholic beverages. The residents can also FaceTime with family or send emails with photos. Everyone is trying to make the best of a difficult situation. As of Thursday, we are able to broadcast our activities to the resident’s rooms on channel 98, a big thank you to Midco’s Al and Jim, to Chris Larson and Jeff Chandler for making this work for us.
A special thank you to the community for thinking of our residents with special greeting cards and notes. Darla Peterson made absolutely beautiful water colored cards for each of our residents – I noticed many of them (the cards) prominently posted on their bulletin boards, tucked in mirrors, sitting on window ledges and taped to doors. Deana Marks’ family made Easter greeting cards and pictures for our residents to enjoy. This was in honor and memory of her sister Dawn Rae Ludwig who always loved the holidays!
April 22nd is Administrative Professionals Day and we want to acknowledge those “behind the scenes” people who keep our facility running smoothly. A big thank you goes out to Linda Knudsvig, Heather Satrom, Jessica Mock and Shelly Aune. Thank you!
We have three residents celebrating birthdays next week – Delores Paulson (April 18), Mary Lou Aamold (April 19), and Kim Plank (April 21). There are four Sun Center residents also celebrating birthdays – Norman Bakke (April 20), Arlene Beekman (April 21), Bonnie Gehrke (April 22) and Pat Frost (April 23). And only two staff members with birthdays – Ester Gamez Pleune (April 18) and Wendi Rutter (April 23). Happy Birthday to all of you and enjoy your special day!!
