Greetings from “The Home” front …

What a fun week we’ve had with new and different activities! Junk Drawer Detective last Saturday was a search and find I spy project. The residents found several items in their junk drawer drawing plus a few more – they also had a good time talking about the items they had had in THEIR junk drawer. Elaine was here for reading on Sunday afternoon. Monday brought newscurrents in the morning – hey – what do you think of the new “look” of our Traill County Tribune! There was Bible Trivia in the afternoon and independent activities including zoom and face time. Plus Bingo in the evening. Andrea led Sit & Be Fit on Tuesday morning and there was a van trip around Portland/Mayville to look at the crops, new businesses and houses where some of our residents used to live. The residents definitely enjoyed a chance to get out and see the sights. Some of our other residents played fly swatter balloon ball -as the name implies – you try to hit a balloon back and forth with a fly swatter. There was lots of laughing and giggling! We had a mini rummage sale for our residents and staff on Wednesday and the ladies got their nails done at Pretty Nails in the afternoon. Thursday was a super special day when our new activity assistant ChiChi made lumpias for everyone during “Cooking with ChiChi”. Lumpias are a specialty in her Philippine country – they are similar to egg rolls but a whole lot more delicious!!! Thanks for sharing your talent ChiChi! There was also a bean bag toss in the morning and bingo that night. Pastor Deb held a church service on Friday morning and Nancy played for Rhythm Band in the afternoon. Saturday - August 1st already - brings word games and bingo plus a 3 p.m. movie matinee.

On the days when it is not so hot and humid, the residents have been going outside to enjoy the courtyard and flowers. Remember, you can schedule an outdoor visit with your loved one by contacting the activity office. Covid-19 precautions and social distancing are still required. We are also open for in room visits – you can schedule those by contacting the LMH receptionist. We hope you will stop by to visit real soon!

Our sympathy goes out to the friends and family of George Brustad and Fern Fugleberg Rotto. George passed away July 21 and Fern on July 25. Both George and Fern were well known in the Portland/Mayville communities and volunteered much of their time to community events. We also want to express sympathy to our Activity Director Lisa Nelson on the passing of her sister Cheryl Korsmo. May all three of these special people rest in peace.

Three residents are celebrating birthdays next week – Esther Slaughter on August 4th and Harriet Ulland and Liz Hanson both on August 7th. Sun Center resident Kenneth Brustad has his birthday on August 1st. Four staff members also have birthdays next week – Genelle Dale on August 3rd, Nicole Sylskar on August 4th and Lindsey Fenske and Kristine Fastner on August 6th. Happy Birthday to all of you and enjoy your special day!

Until next time … a thought for the week … If you really want something you can figure out how to make it happen … Stay Safe – Stay Healthy and PLEASE WEAR A MASK!
