Greets from "The Home" front...
We were truly blessed this Thanksgiving season by many people and groups that remembered our residents with cards and gifts. Bernice Peihl donated 3 colorful blankets that will certainly brighten up the beds and keep everyone warm this winter. Our chaplain, Deb Stave hand stamped and created thinking of you cards for every resident. The Praire Rose 4-H group under the leadership of Melanie Joerger also made thanksgiving cards that said that they were thinking of and praying for each resident. The residents certainly appreciated their thoughtfulness. In the past, before COVID-19 19, the Peter Boe Third graders came every month to visit their adopted grandparents. Since this is not possible this year, they decided to become pen pals and have been writing back and forth with resident that chose to participate. The letters came last week and included drawings, best wishes and even some jokes. The residents always enjoy hearing from the children. I have to share one of the jokes – why did the football team go to the bank?.... to get their quarter back!!!
We have begun our Christmas decorating so it shouldn’t be long before our hallways and doors look festive. In addition to decorating, we had Sit & Be Fit on Monday, News currents on Tuesday, and a Christmas word game on Wednesday. Mens Club on Thursday and in the afternoon the residents were able to get their picture taken in a holiday setting. They can then use these pictures to send to friends and relatives. There was virtual Mass and then church on channel 98 on Friday morning followed by more holiday pictures in the afternoon. Saturday brings Sit & Be Fit and Hallway Noodle Ball. Next week, on Monday December 7th we will have a Pearl Harbor Remembrance; there will also be Sit & Be Fit and Resident Council via channel 98. Tuesday brings Newscurrents and a Christmas sing along. On Wednesday there is coloring in the morning followed by a lefse (and hopefully tasting) demonstration in the afternoon. Pastor Deb will be here for bible study on Thursday morning and the ladies will get their nails done in the afternoon. Friday brings Mass and Church in the morning and TGIF Happy ½ hour later on.
There are no resident or Sun Center resident birthdays next week but 3 staff members are celebrating theirs. Jeanne Walden and Arlys Balstad on December 7th and Samantha Tronsen on December 9th. Happy birthday to you three and enjoy your special day.
Until next time … a thought for the week … In life there are some things we might never really “get over”. Sometimes the best we can do is just “get through” …. Stay safe and please wear a mask!
