Greetings from “The Home” front …

Well, last week’s column got lost and is floating somewhere in cyber-space – however, that did not stop us from having a fun week. Some of the highlights included: Activity Assistant Andrea helping the residents make a loop-to-loop paper flag to hang in the activity room – this was in honor of Flag Day on June 14th. We also had a demonstration on the proper way to fold a flag and flag etiquette. A highlight on Wednesday was crafts when the residents made a chalk painted greeting card. This was a new technique to most of them. On Thursday we had a celebration with well wishes to Activity Director Lisa Nelson and welcome to Lysa Wright as our new Activity Director, and happy “semi-retirement” to the LMH therapy dog, Scooby. Pastor Deb was here for Bible Study on Thursday and then again for church on Friday. In honor of Father’s Day, the men were treated to Beer and Brats out in the picnic shelter – it sure sounded like everyone had a good time.

Chi Chi started off this week on Sunday with a special activity about Father’s Day Wisdom. We told Jokes on Monday morning and there was Rhythm Band in the afternoon. Other residents spent time out on the patio/courtyard and there was Bingo in the evening. The van went on another road trip on Tuesday to see the sights – the crops looked better this week after Sunday’s rain. Other residents stayed and played Blackjack. Wednesday brought Choir in the morning and Crafts in the afternoon. Wednesday is also the time when an activity staff member goes shopping for any resident that has a special request – usually for special snacks, a favorite beverage or some item not available here at LMH. We spent Thursday discovering Yellowstone National Park. There was Yellowstone trivia, fun facts and also a video in the afternoon. The ladies also got their nails done at Pretty Nails. Pastor Deb was here for Church on Friday and we had special music by Paul Swanstrom. He always puts on a great performance and we enjoy having him come. On Saturday we hope to take the residents out on the lawn to watch the Summerfest Parade go by. Everyone enjoys a good parade!

We start out Sunday with Crosswords in the afternoon. On Monday it’s Show & Tell followed by Rhythm Band and Patio Time. Plus Bingo in the evening. Tuesday brings Newscurrents and a Van trip plus Horse Racing later in the day. We are going fishing on Wednesday! There is Down Memory Lane in the morning when I’m sure we will reminisce about that big walleye that got away. Molly will also be bringing some vintage fishing magazines for the men to look at. There is also fishing trivia in the afternoon. Thursday (July 1st already!!!) – Pastor Deb will be here for Bible Study in the morning followed by Pretty Nails and Joke Time in the afternoon. And, of course, there is Bingo in the evening. Friday starts out with Church in the morning and then to celebrate the 4thh of July a bit early -we will have Happy ½ hour.

A few birthdays got missed last week – belated birthday wishes to Sun Center resident June Karlstad whose birthday was June 18th. Other Sun Center birthdays included Caroline Tunseth on June 23rd and now Carol Niemeier on July 4th! Back in LMH - resident Terry Anderson had a birthday on June 22nd and Irene Lidstrom’s special day was June 26th. Resident Laurel Jorgensen also has his birthday on July 4th. Several staff members did not get their birthdays recognized last week – Belated Birthday wishes to Trina Thykeson, Natasha Jones and Heather Fyfe who all had their birthday on June 21st. Deb Sletten celebrated her birthday June 24th. There is one upcoming staff birthday – Carol Romaniuk on July 1st. Happy Birthday to all of you and I hope you enjoy your special day!

Our sympathy to the friends and family of Gerald Malley who passed away June 8th. Gerald was an Air Force veteran who was with us briefly. While here at LMH he enjoyed visits from family and staff, watching TV and hearing devotions.

We also lost long time resident Delores (DeeDee) Paulson on June 17th. DeeDee enjoyed listening to music, receiving hand massages and visits from staff. Rest in Peace Gerald and DeeDee.

Until next time … a quote from Walt Disney – “the way to get started is to quit talking and begin doing”.
