Greetings from “the Home” front –
We had a busy week despite the snow! Molly was here on Sunday for Wheel of Fortune. Unfortunately, the snow DID keep Pat and Vanna away but we had a good time without them. On Monday we started out the morning with a Festive Fixing Detective game, followed by Kitchen Capers in the afternoon. The resident cooks made a “Blessing Mix” that consisted of pretzels, nuts, M&Ms, dried fruit and candy corn. The significance of the Blessings includes Pretzels – arms cross & folded in thanks and prayer. Nuts – the promise of a future harvest if seeds are planted and tended with care. M&Ms – memories of those who came before us to guide us to a blessed future. Dried fruit – the bountiful fruits of the earth, gathered at harvest time and Candy Corn signifies the sacrifices of the first winter in America. Later in the afternoon the residents talked about the places they had lived or visited on our World Travel Map. And of course, there was bingo in the evening. There was Newscurrents and Rhythm Band on Tuesday followed by Bunco later in the day. On Wednesday Nancy played for Choir and the crafty ladies (and men) made a Thanksgiving card to mail to a loved one. Staff also went shopping for the residents. Pastor Deb was here for Bible Study Thursday morning and the ladies got their nails done at Pretty Nails in the afternoon. We tried our hand at Bell Choir and played Bingo in the evening. Friday brings Church in the morning with Pastor Deb and TGIF Happy ½ hour in the afternoon. On Saturday there is Sit & Be Fit, Bingo and Turkey Races.
ChiChi leads off Sunday afternoon the 21st with Karaoke. The residents really enjoy hearing her sing. There is Over the River Reminisce on Monday morning followed by Kitchen Capers in the afternoon. The cooks will be making Turkey Shaped/Decorated cookies to munch on. We have a Turkey Shoot later in the day and Bingo in the evening. Newscurrents starts off Tuesday and then Rhythm Band and Turkey Day Trivia. We will switch things up a bit on Wednesday as Pastor Deb will lead a Special Pre-Thanksgiving service. There is Crafts in the afternoon and staff will go Shopping for our residents. On Thanksgiving Andrea will be here for Thanksgiving Day Reminisce and Tag Tom the Turkey in the afternoon. We have bingo in the evening. Friday brings Name that Tune, pretty Nails and visits. I imagine there will be lots of residents just relaxing after all the yummy treats from Thanksgiving.
We finish out November with one resident birthday – Happy Birthday to Kenard Knudson on November 30th. Only one staff member has a birthday next week – Christine Neshem on November 22nd. Best wishes to both of you and enjoy your special day!
Until next time – a thought for the week – thanks to Marie Curie “Nothing in life is to be feared, it is only to be understood. Now is the time to understand more, so that we may fear less”. Mask Up and Have a Happy and Safe Thanksgiving
