Greets from "The Home" front...
Well, Mother Nature certainly showed me who was Boss when I mentioned in last week’s column that it looked like Spring might only be a few weeks away – she dumped snow on us!!! Thankfully, it is melting and hopefully starting to warm up. I am not going to mention Spring for another month though.
We started out the first of March (Monday) with coffee cart delivery, then the residents played a great game of Yahtzee in the activity room. This is the first time we played it as a group and it appears to be a great success – we will do it more often now. Nancy played for a Sing A-long in the afternoon and we had a good turnout. Since Tuesday was Dr Suess Birthday, we read some fun facts and stories from his books. We had a very special musical treat when Sarah Gage came to play the harp for us. It was a beautiful recital and I heard many positive comments from the residents. Thank you so much Sarah for sharing your talent with us. After Newscurrets on Wednesday, the residents made “I Am Lucky” shamrocks in a paper mosaic design. Pastor Deb was here for Bible Study on Thursday morning and the ladies got their nails painted at Pretty Nails in the afternoon. There was Bingo in the evening. We had Virtual Mass and Church on Friday and then my favorite game – Bunco later on. Could you hear the laughter and bell ringing?? Nancy led Sit & Be Fit on Saturday morning, then followed up with music on the piano later in the afternoon.
Elaine will lead a Reminisce activity called “Let’s Remember” on Sunday. After coffee time on Monday, there is a new activity called “Lamb Categories” – hmmm not sure exactly what that is – but will tell you in next week’s column. Also, on Monday there is a Resident Council meeting, independent activities and Bingo in the evening. We have Newscurrents on Tuesday followed by Name That Tune in the afternoon. On Wednesday we will play Crosswords and then do a craft project featuring shamrocks. Thursday brings a St Patrick’s Guessing Game and Pretty Nails. And of course, Bingo in the evening. After Virtual Mass and Church on Friday we will celebrate with TGIF Happy ½.
A special thank you goes out to Jessica Nelson who provided a large print subscription to Guidepost Magazine for our residents to enjoy.
WE have one resident birthday next week – Emma Thykeson on March 9th. There are no Sun Center Birthdays this week but we have several staff members celebrating – Jennifer Almanza and Sabrina Amundson on March 7th; Jeric Houdek on March 10th, Kayla Hanson on March 11th and Destinee Korsmo on March 13th. Happy Birthday to all of you and enjoy your special day.
Our sympathy goes out to the friends and family of Ruby Palmer who passed away February 27th. Ruby enjoyed hearing daily devotions read to her, talking on the phone with her family and listening to music. Our sympathy also to the family and friends of Geri Voltz who passed away February 25th. Geri was a long-time employee (36 years!) of LMH. Rest in Peace Ruby and Geri.
Until next time … a thought for the week … Sometimes you win – sometimes you learn ….
