Greetings from “The Home” front …
This has been a busy week at “The Home”. Staff were able to receive Covid booster shots and also Flu vaccines were available. We should be all set for winter now! These first few days of October have been so beautiful – residents are still able to go outside.
ChiChi lead a rousing Karaoke activity on Sunday with several singers among our residents. Then on Monday there was Fall Fiddler Detective and an I Spy game – both activities which are good for brain/eye association. In the afternoon several residents made a cute Jack-o-lantern from a jar and orange rice. There was Bingo in the evening. Tuesday brought Newscurrents and Rhythm Band followed by Bunco. After Choir on Wednesday, our Activity Director, Lysa Wright gave a spinning wheel demonstration. Lysa is an avid knitter who spins her own yarn – it was quite fascinating to see how the wool spins into a skein of yarn. There was a fun game called “Pass the Pig” on Thursday morning. It is very similar to musical chairs and brought lots of laughs. We also had Pretty Nails and Noodle Ball in the afternoon plus Bingo in the evening. Pastor Deb was here on Friday for Church in the morning and Dan Lee performed in the afternoon. Dan does lots of familiar songs that you can tap your toes to. On Saturday there is Sit & Be Fit, Bingo and a movie.
Molly will be here on Sunday to play Crosswords with our residents. Many of them do the crosswords in the newspaper so this is an opportunity to use those unusual/unique words.
Next week we are celebrating with a Fun and Games Carnival all week long! Staff get to wear jeans Monday thru Friday and there will be lots of food and activities for everyone to enjoy. Monday starts with a Rhyming Game and then there will be apple nachos to taste test. We will also have a photo booth set up for fun picture taking. Resident Council meets later in the afternoon and there is Bingo in the evening. After Newscurrents on Tuesday it’s “Booze & Tattoos” - I don’t even want to KNOW what that is! I can only guess! Nancy will also lead a Singalong! There is Name That Tune on Wednesday along with Ice Cream Sundaes in the afternoon. Thursday brings Bible Study in the morning and then Carnival Games. The ladies can also get their nails done at Pretty Nails. And there is Bingo in the evening. After Church on Friday Larry Charon will be here for a live concert in the dining room – everyone is looking forward to hearing him play.
Congratulations to Heather Satrom who has accepted the position as our new Human Resources Director. Heather replaces Adam Edwards who has taken a job in Grand Forks.
Also, congratulations to our RN Erika Tinkham on the birth of her son, Zannen, who was born September 14th. Zannen weighted 7lbs 4 oz and was 19-3/4” long. Best wishes to you and baby Zannen.
We have one resident birthday next week – Vern Willeson on October 11th. There are only two staff birthdays – Sue Tastad on October 11th and Stacey Nosbusch on October 16th. Happy Birthday to all of you and enjoy your special day!
Until next time … a thought for the week … There is no “I” in “team” ….
