Greetings from "The Home" front...
What a great way to start the New Year – CVS pharmacists and staff were here on Saturday Jan 2nd to administer the first round of Covid-19 vaccines. Many of the staff and residents took advantage of this opportunity. We will have our 2nd shot on January 23rd. Luther Memorial Home Administrator Brett Ulrich and CNA Carol Carpenter, received their first round of the COVID-19 Vaccine.
We started out Sunday afternoon with Crosswords - it was a tough one and I do a lot of crossword puzzles, but we persevered and got it done. Monday brought Sit & Be Fit in the morning and the taking down of our Christmas decorations. It is kindda sad as the hallways looked so festive but we will be decorating for Valentine’s Day very soon. Andrea read the newscurrents on Tuesday and Nancy played for Rhythm Band. On Wednesday we had choir and then we built a snowman – no we didn’t have to go outside - we made a cute guy with cotton balls and buttons. Pastor Deb was back for Bible Study on Thursday morning and the ladies got their nails done at Pretty Nails in the afternoon. There was Virtual Mass and Church on Friday and we celebrated TGIF with Happy ½ hour in the afternoon. There is Sit & Be Fit and Bingo on Saturday.
Next week Luther Memorial Home is having their very own Winterfest, thank you to Orion and Elaine Klath for the opportunity to use a Thrivent Action Plan for our Winterfest activities. Elaine A will be here for reading on Sunday. There is Sit & Be Fit on Monday morning and a snowflake word game in the afternoon. We have newscurrents on Tuesday and snowball games and sno cones later on. Snow Shoe Races are planned for Wednesday and then we will be serving Ice Cream Sundae Bar for everyone (so glad I work on Wednesdays!!!). There are snowman races planned for Thursday and pretty nails in the afternoon. Friday brings virtual mass and church in the morning and winter scatagories in the afternoon. In addition to all of these activities, the coffee cart goes around every morning delivering coffee and treats to the resident’s room and we have Bingo in the evenings on Monday and Thursday nights. Even with COVID-19 curtailing many of our activities, we are still keeping busy.
We have two resident birthdays next week – Dorothy Heskin on January 13th and Gerald Storebo on January 15th. There are no Sun Center birthdays but we have five staff members with birthdays – Inez Olson (January 11), Katie Sayler and Erika Tinkham on January 12th, Sarah Zapata (January 14th) and Andrea Knudson on January 16th. Happy Birthday to all of you and enjoy your special day!!
Our sympathy to the friends and family of Clifford “Kip” McCoy and Esther Slaughter. Kip passed away December 31st. He enjoyed hearing stories read to him, devotions and listening to music. Esther passed away on January 1st. She came to all craft activities and also enjoyed the musical events such as Rhythm Band and Name That Tune. Esther always had a jigsaw puzzles going in her room. Rest in Peace Kip and Esther – you will be missed.
Until next time … a thought for the week … You do not find a happy life – you make it ….
