Pinata Fun, Celebrating Cinco De Mayo!

Greetings from “The Home” front ….

Yippee! Everyone tested negative after our testing event on Monday!!! We have been able to open up visitations a little bit more but please check with our front desk to find out exactly what you can and can’t do. Sound confusing – yes, it is but we don’t make the rules – we simply have to follow CDC protocol. We get tested again on the 17th and if everyone is still negative, we can open up fully again.

Our activities are limited to ten residents in the activity room and we have been making the best of it. Residents were interviewed and it was decided to celebrate Nursing Home Week the week of May 24th due to the current limitations. We are looking forward to celebrating all together… On Sunday Molly was here for fun facts about Mother’s Day and some Reminiscing about gardening – which do you like – veggie or flower gardening?? Most of the residents liked flower gardens but remembered having vegetable gardens and canning for the long winter months. Monday was Wheel of Fortune and our Parachute Game. There was also Bingo in the evening. We had Newscurrents on Tuesday morning followed by planting some flowers in the raised courtyard beds. On Wednesday Nancy played piano for Name That Tune and Molly helped the residents make beaded bracelets. My favorite game was on the agenda for Thursday – Bunco!! Then the ladies got their nails done at Pretty Nails in the afternoon. Pastor Deb was here for Church on Friday and we had Rhythm Band later in the day. Several of the residents also played board games in the activity room. Our coffee cart goes around every morning to all the rooms offering coffee, cocoa, juice, and cookies so even though we can’t have coffee time in the activity room right now our residents can still get their jolt of that Norwegian Brew (also known as strong black coffee). Saturday May 15th is Armed Forces Day and there will be a weekend word search along that theme. Andrea will lead Sit & Be Fit at 10:30 and then Jingo in the afternoon. There will also be our Saturday movie matinee.

Many of our activities can be viewed on our ‘In house” television Channel 98 which is available in every resident’s room. So, if a resident cannot attend an activity, they can still watch and participate from the comfort of their own room. We are so thankful to have that available to everyone.

Next week we start out Monday (Syttende Mai)) with Norwegian Golf and then a Taste of Norway – hmmm – does that mean food???? Rummegot and Lefse would be good a good way to celebrate Norwegian Independence Day – just sayin’! We are also planning a Resident Council meeting later in the afternoon plus Bingo in the evening. On Tuesday it’s Newscurrents and hopefully a Van Trip around Portland/Mayville to see the sights. The residents will also work on their last Pen Pal letters to their Peter Boe 3rd grade pen pals. We have a Sing A-Long planned for Wednesday morning and then a craft project using watercolor pens and pencils. Pastor Deb will lead Bible Study on Thursday followed by Pretty Nails in the afternoon. There will also be Bingo in the evening. Pastor Deb is back for Church on Friday and the Happy ½ hour cart will be delivering beverages and snacks later on in the day. Virtual Mass is also available daily for our Catholic residents.

We have only a couple of birthdays next week – Sun Center resident David Wiggen has his birthday May 22 and staff member Grace Lovro has hers on May 23rd. That’s it! We wish both of you a very special Happy Birthday and hope you enjoy your day.

Until next time … a thought for the week …. A Hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles … thank you to all the heroes here at LMH.
