Greetings from “The Home” front …

Hip Hip Hurrah!!! Everyone tested negative after our testing event on Monday. This means we will be able to open our doors to more visitors and activities but please check with our front desk for any special visitor guidelines.

We continued with activities by celebrating Syttende de Mai on Monday – there was Norwegian Golf (Uff Da!) and then the residents enjoyed special Norwegian treats at a Taste of Norway. They had lefse with their dinner, then at 2pm rommegrot, strull, and pickled herring with crackers tickled their tastebuds. There was also a Resident Council meeting followed by Bingo in the evening. Tuesday brought Newscurrents in the morning and then a chance for residents to get out and see the sights on a Van Trip around Mayville and Portland. The weather was perfect and many were interested in seeing how the fields were being worked. Nancy led a Sing Along on Wednesday and then the residents made Watercolor Pictures during Crafts. Pastor Deb led a Bible Study Thursday morning. The Second Wind Band provided wonderful music during an outdoor concert and many of the ladies got their nails done at Pretty Nails afterwards. And there was Bingo in the evening. Pastor Deb was back for Church on Friday and we celebrated TGIF with the Happy ½ hour. On Saturday there is Sit & Be Fit followed by Bingo and a 3 pm. Movie Matinee. It is great to have Deb Sletten back to work. The staff and residents sure missed you Debbie!

The State inspectors arrived on Monday for their annual inspection. They will be here for about 3-4 days so I will not have the results until next weeks column as I have a Tuesday morning Tribune deadline.

Next week we are going to enjoy some of the events that had to be postponed due to the positive COVID case two weeks ago. On Monday after Reminisce we are having a High Tea Celebration for Women in honor of a belated Mother’s Day. We are digging out our best china and recipes for this fun and fashionable event. The theme on Tuesday is Living it Up in Las Vegas and there will be blackjack and other casino games. It’s Take Me Out to the Ballgame on Wednesday with the residents playing a baseball game and then the crafty ladies (and guys) will make a greeting card during craft time. Staff are encouraged to wear clothing representing their favorite baseball team. Cruisin’ Up the Caribbean is planned for Thursday with everyone wearing tropical attire. The residents will have a chance to get their picture taken in a tropical setting and there will be a Luau in the afternoon. Pastor Deb will be here for Church on Friday and we will have Special Music by Steve Warner in the afternoon. Friday is a western these so residents will be roping for prizes during the day, and there will be a picnic for all.

At a very special pinning ceremony at Mayville State on May 14th, five of our staff members received their nursing pins. Congratulations to Veronica Belgarde, Lindsey Fenske, Michelle Peck, Francisco Smukalla and Erica Tinkham. Best Wishes to all of you and good luck on those pesky state licensing exams.

We have two resident birthdays next week - Marie Tollefsrud on May 24th and Linda Erickson on May 26th. Alvia Flaten and Grace Wolden down in Sun Center have birthdays – Alvia on May 24th and Grace on May 27th. There are also two staff members with birthdays - Alyssa Eichhorn on May 27th and Lauren Sailor on May 30th. Happy Birthday and best wishes for a great day!

Our sympathy to the friends and family of Conway Simensen who passed away May 10. Conway loved to wheel around the hallways giving high fives to staff, playing catch and doing puzzles in the activity room. We also lost long time rural Portland resident JeanAnn Fugelberg on May 17th. JeanAnn was very involved in the community especially at her home church- Bang Lutheran. Here at LMH she enjoyed watching tv, hearing devotions and visiting with staff. Rest in Peace Conway and Jean Ann – you will be missed.

Until next time … a thought for the week … Wherever you go – go with all your heart ….
