Greetings from “The Home” front …

What a wonderful surprise we had on Saturday when Ragan McGillis dropped by to play her harp for our residents. She held an impromptu concert in the chapel and the turnout to hear her play was fantastic. Several residents commented how peaceful and relaxing the music was and how much they enjoyed it. Thanks again Ragan and stop back anytime!!

Elaine was here on Sunday to play 5-Square with everyone. It was meeting day on Monday with the Food Committee meeting in the morning and a Resident Council meeting in the afternoon. In between the meetings the residents enjoyed an Ice Cream Social. There was Bingo that night. On Tuesday we had Newscurrents in the morning followed by Rhythm Band in the afternoon. Some of the residents also helped us set up for the Mini Rummage Sale on Wednesday. That’s right – we held a rummage sale on Wednesday and there were lots of bargains to be had. Who doesn’t like a rummage sale!!!! Our residents and staff found lots of new outfits and treasures. Pastor Deb was here for Bible Study on Thursday and the ladies got their nails done at Pretty Nails in the afternoon. We had Church on Friday morning followed by Happy ½ hour in the afternoon. Saturday brings Sit & Be Fit and Bingo plus a Movie Matinee in the afternoon. Last Saturday Dorothy Homstad won three straight Bingos on the same card!! What a lucky lady with a lucky card!

Next week there is Crosswords on Sunday afternoon. The van will be going on a Sightseeing Trip around the area. We will also be talking about Summer Vacation Disasters – like the time my car engine blew up on a mountain pass in the middle of nowhere. As black smoke was pouring out the back of the car – the AAA lady I called for help asked me if I was sure I wasn’t just out of gas!!! Looks like we will have a fun new activity on Tuesday when the residents try their art skills with Squirt Gun Painting. We also have Newscurrents and Rhythm Band that day. There is Name That Tune on Wednesday plus staff will be going shopping for the residents. Thursday starts out with EZ Does It Trivia followed by a special program honoring our dedicated staff for their Years of Service and then Pretty Nails in the afternoon. There is a Picnic in the shelter on Friday right after Church and then Happy ½ hour later in the day.

Residents Arlene Olstad and Hadley Verwest share birthdays on August 14th and Helen Sharpe has her birthday on August 22. I missed one Sun Center birthday last week – belated good wishes to Helen Knudsvig whose birthday was August 8th. There are a few staff members will birthdays next week – Vicki Johnson on August 17th; Nolan Wengeler on August 19th; Laurice VanZee on August 19th; Harley Parrow on August 21st and Megan Evans on August 22nd. Happy Birthday to all of you and enjoy your special day!!!
Our sympathy goes out to LMH Resident Robert Judisch on the passing of his wife, Helen. We are all sorry for his loss and may she rest in peace.

Until next time … a thought for the week … One day your life will flash before your eyes – make sure it is worth watching…
