Greetings from “The Home” front ….
I am back from vacation!!! It was fun to visit my friends again but there is nothing like being back to your “own place” without high crime, homeless people blocking your way on the sidewalk and traffic that takes one hour to go 10 miles!!! Well, let’s see what has been happening while I was gone ….
A proud salute to Vern Williston on receiving a “quilt of valor” from the Red River Quilters. A well-deserved honor to a special resident. We have several other veterans here at LMH and we hope that they will be able to receive a quilt in the near future.
Not to be outdone by the athletes in Tokyo at the Summer Olympics – we held our own Olympic Events. There were individual and team events such as Table hockey, Golf, and Volleyball! The residents had a great time!
We are waiting for the results of Wednesday’s Covid-19 testing in hopes that LMH will again be open for visitation. As the newspaper deadline is Tuesday noon, I am not able to give you those results but if you have any questions, please feel free to call the front desk at 788-3401.
It has been a busy week here at “the home”. Monday the residents heard short stories and tried out different potato chip flavors at our Potato Chip Social. After trying BBQ, Sour Cream, Baked, Dill Pickle, Lime and Jalapeno, Parmesan and Classic – it turns out that good ol’ Classic was the favorite. We also played Noodle Ball in the afternoon and Bingo in the evening. Tuesday brought Newscurrents, Rhythm Band, and Show and Tell. Several residents reminisced about spending time at the lake during our Wednesday morning activity. In the afternoon, they made a summer themed greeting card. There was Trivia on Thursday morning and then Special Music by Dan Lee. Dan does a wonderful job of performing favorite tunes that our residents enjoy hearing again. There was also Bingo in the evening. Pastor Deb was here for Church on Friday and it was nice to have our Activity Director, Lysa Wright, playing hymns for the church service. For residents that wanted to go – the kitchen offered a picnic out in the picnic shelter on Friday. What a beautiful day to be outside! The ladies also got their nails done during Pretty Nails in the afternoon. Saturday brings Sit & Be Fit in the morning, followed by Bingo and a Movie Matinee in the afternoon.
Elaine will be here on Sunday to play 5 square and Lawrence Welk will be on TV at 6 p.m. There is a Food Committee meeting on Monday morning and a Resident Council meeting in the afternoon. In between the meetings we will enjoy an Ice Cream Social (yum!) and play Bingo in the evening. We have Newscurrents on Tuesday and Nancy is back for Rhythm Band on Tuesday. Wednesday brings a mini rummage sale where residents and staff can find bargains galore! Pastor Deb is here for Bible Study on Thursday and there is also Pretty Nails in the afternoon. Friday brings Church and Happy ½ hour on the schedule.
We have three resident birthdays this week – Harriett Ulland and Elizabeth Hanson on August 7th and Betty Dahl on August 12th. We also have several (wow!) staff birthdays coming up – Dawn Carter (August 8th), Jennifer Carr (August 9th), Jean Holter (August 10th), Sandy Abbas and Melinda Donohue (August 12), Kyle Eken (August 13) and Melissa Schmidt on August 14th. Happy Birthday to all of you and enjoy your special day.
Our sympathy goes out to the friends and family of Nathan Scherr who passed away July 23 in Fargo. Nathan was a resident here at LMH before he was moved to Fargo to be closer to his family. He held a special place in the hearts of many of our residents and staff and was truly missed when he moved. Rest in Peace, Nathan.
Until next time … a thought for the week … Don’t be pushed around by the fears in your mind. Be led by the dreams in your heart…
