Greetings from “The Home” front …
Well, Mother Nature is still acting up! It was cold on Sunday when Elaine came for a reminisce activity – wonder if she talked about that snowstorm of 1966! We are still enjoying activities inside at LMH. Monday brought coffee cart in the morning followed by horseshoes. Several residents were great horseshoe players “back in the day” and showed us they still had that skill. Chi Chi demonstrated and made spring rolls for all who wanted to taste. All agreed they were wonderful. There was Newscurrents and Rhythm Band with Nancy on Tuesday. Molly read stories from James Harriot’s All Creatures Great & Small during reading on Wednesday morning and then the residents did crafts in the afternoon. Everyone had a great time playing Noodle ball on Thursday and then the ladies got their nails done at Pretty Nails. Pastor Deb was here for Church on Friday – it is so nice to be able to have services in our chapel again. There was also virtual mass for our Catholic residents. In the afternoon the residents went bowling. We also have Bingo every Monday and Thursday evening. On Saturday (May 1st already!) we will celebrate the Kentucky Derby with horse races in the morning and then celebrate May Day with May Day bingo in the afternoon. We will also have the Kentucky Derby on TV in the activity room.
We start out next week by playing Spring 5 Square with Elaine on Sunday. Then, moving on to Monday there is creative writing and Remote Car Races. The car races were a big hit last month and residents requested that we do them again. Later on, we will play board games and have bingo in the evening. Tuesday brings Newscurrents and Bunco followed by Golf. Wednesday, May 5th we celebrate Cinco DeMayo with a Pinata in the morning and the Fiesta Cart will be going around in the afternoon. Pastor Deb is back for Bible Study on Thursday and then the ladies will get their nails done at Petty Nails. We also have independent and 1:1 activities. If the weather cooperates, we hope to have a scenic drive van trip after church on Friday. While some of the residents are on the van trip, others will enjoy cowboy poetry.
We have one resident birthday next week – Happy Birthday Gladys Chandler on May 3rd. There are no Sun Center birthdays but we have three staff members with birthdays coming up – Linda Willie on May 2, Curtis Moen May 3rd, and Lindsay Campbell on May 6trh. Best wishes to all of you and enjoy your special day.
It has been a sad couple of weeks here at LMH with the loss of three residents. Gary Wasylow on April 20, LeRoy Brenna on April 22 and Bill Shashane on April 25th. Gary was from Grand Forks and with us briefly – he liked listening to music, reminiscing about his German heritage and visiting with staff. LeRoy was well known in the community – as a teacher, farmer and his participation in the VFW and Color Guard. Bill Shahane loved to visit with staff, give high 5’s to everyone he met and play solitaire on the computer. Rest in Peace Gary, LeRoy and Bill – you will be missed.
Until next time … a thought for the week … Light tomorrow with today …
