Greetings from “The Home” front …

It was another busy week here at LMH and the halls are looking even more festive. Staff are outdoing themselves decorating the resident’s doors!

ChiChi started us out this week with Karaoke in the activity room. This is a popular activity and it was fun to see our residents joining in the singing. We learned the story behind several Christmas carols on Monday morning and then our resident cooks decorated and taste tested Christmas cookies. There was also a resident council meeting and bingo in the evening. Tuesday brought newscurrents, a new game of jeopardy and Christmas short stories. After coffee time on Wednesday, the residents did a memory enhancing challenge with Finish the Song Lyrics. We even tried to sing some of the songs. There was crafts in the afternoon. Last week we were supposed to make cute mouse ornaments with candy cane tails but everyone voted to make Christmas Cards instead so we are making those mouse ornaments this week. Staff also went shopping for the residents in the afternoon. Pastor Deb was here for Bible Study on Thursday morning and the ladies got their nails done at Pretty Nails. We also had a reading entitled “One Special Gift” and in the evening there was Bingo. Pastor Deb was back for church on Friday where we honored and remembered our residents who passed away this year with a Blue Christmas Remembrance. Unfortunately, we were not be able to have guests in attendance this year but special ornaments with the deceased name were placed on the Chapel Christmas tree. In the afternoon we had TGIF with Happy ½ hour. Saturday brings Sit & Be Fit, Bingo and Santa Races. Oh, I hope Santa doesn’t get too tired out – he has a busy week ahead.

Oh My Gosh – next weekend is Christmas!!! Where did the month go!!! We start out the week with Wheel of Fortune on Sunday. There is Down Memory Lane on Monday with reminiscing about Christmas, and in the afternoon Rhythm Band, Bunco and Bingo. Winter officially begins on Tuesday (ha-ha! – it’s already here!). In the morning there is Coffee Time and Newscurrents and then the Resident Christmas Party! It’s time for Santa to reveal whose been naughty or nice! We have a Christmas sing-along on Wednesday, plus crafts and resident shopping in the afternoon. We will play CAROL categories Thursday morning – it’s another brain game with everyone trying to name as many Christmas Carols starting with each of the letters in the word CAROL! How many can you name?? The ladies will get their nails done in the afternoon and then we have a rousing game of Noodle Ball planned plus Bingo in the evening. On December 24 (Friday) Pastor Deb will have a special Christmas church service in the morning and later the residents will receive their Angel Gifts thanks to the community and Aasen Drug. On Christmas Day there is Sit and Be Fit, Bingo and the Reading of the Christmas Story. Molly will also read a story that is special to her entitled “One White Envelope”. If you are not familiar with it, look it up on Google and you may wish to incorporate it in your future holidays.

There is still time to purchase an angel ornament for our Tree of Lights which is on display in our lobby. Donation forms are available at the receptionist desk. It is a wonderful way to remember or honor a loved one.

There are no resident birthdays next week but two staff members will be celebrating – Terri Nelson on December 20th and Jeff Chandler on December 24th. Happy Birthday to both of you and enjoy your special day!

Until next time … a thought for the week … A gentle word, a kind look, a good-natured smile can work wonders and accomplish miracles. MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!
