Greetings from “The Home” front …
We sure had a rousing game of crosswords on Sunday - congratulations to Carol Kost who correctly answered this clue “college town in Maine”. She answered with Orono – we were all amazed! Carol said the clue occasionally comes up in the crossword puzzles she does. Way to go Carol!!
The residents did some traveling on Monday – there was a new activity called Travel Map. We had a huge map of the United States posted on the board and the residents marked the states they had visited and talked about their trip/vacation there. Lots of discussion and interesting stories. The weather was just too hot for our planned sightseeing excursion around Mayville/Portland so we stayed inside where it was cool and did a craft project. Later in the afternoon we discussed Summer Vacation Disasters. There were some funny stories that everyone could laugh about now but were serious/scary at the time. Tuesday brought Newscurrents in the morning followed by Rhythm Band and a fun Craft Activity – squirt gun painting! Nancy played for Name That Tune on Wednesday and then there was Bunco in the afternoon. Thursday started out with EZ Does It Trivia followed by Pretty Nails and then a Special Program Honoring our Staff members for their years of service to LMH. I will have their names in next week’s column. Pastor Deb led a Church Service on Friday and then everyone enjoyed Happy ½ hour. We have Sit & Be Fit and Bingo on Saturday followed by a Movie Matinee.
Next week Elaine is here for Down Memory Lane on Sunday afternoon. We will be remembering some Songs about Summer on Monday morning. Activity staff will be serving popcorn in the afternoon followed by Bunco and then Bingo in the evening. Looks like a fun filled Monday. We have Newscurrents on Tuesday and then and August IQ quiz in the afternoon. We will also be serving Lemonade on the patio. Can you Picture This is on the agenda for Wednesday and then during crafts, the residents will be making their initial in an outline of silk flowers. We have Bible Study on Thursday, followed by Pretty Nails and a new activity called Name 10. Of course, there is Bingo in the evening. After Church and dinner on Friday, we have a special treat – the American Legion/VFW who will be here to play $$$ with our residents. The residents always looked forward to their once a month visit. Can you believe it is almost the end of August already!!!
We have one resident birthday on August 18 – Mary Ferguson and two resident birthdays next week both on August 28th – Carol Kost and Mary Ann Omlid. LaVonne Christianson in Sun Center has her birthday on August 27th. There are also two staff members with birthdays – Connie Christianson and Jaclyn Rindy – both of theirs on August 23. Happy Birthday to all of you and enjoy your special day!
Our best wishes to Trina Thykeson who is leaving LMH after 32 years of service. She will become a full-time caregiver for a family member. We will miss you Trina and all your wonderful holiday costumes.
On a sad note, we are mourning the passing of our former Therapy dog, Scooby, who passed away on August 16th. Scooby was 16 years old and brought joy to the LMH residents and staff for over 12 years. Rest in Peace Scooby – you will be missed.
Until next time … a thought for the week … No one can drive you crazy unless you give them the keys …
