Greetings from “The Home” front ….

What a Great Week! We have been celebrating and enjoying several of the events that had to be postponed a couple of weeks ago do to a positive Covid test – but we sure made up for lost time! On Monday the ladies enjoyed a High Tea to celebrate Mother’s Day. They were served special treats in the dining room and enjoyed guitar music by Pam Sedler. Thank you, Pam, for sharing your gift of music with us. Earlier in the day there was Reminisce and then Noodle Ball later in the afternoon along with wheelchair rides outside. Plus, there was Bingo in the evening. Wow! That was a full day of fun! Everyone was Living It Up in Las Vegas on Tuesday. There was Newscurrents in the morning followed by Casino Games in the afternoon. We also had Giggles in the Garden following the games. It was Take Me Out to the Ballgame on Wednesday. Staff and residents dressed in their favorite team colors and many wore team caps and t-shirts. We played a baseball game in the morning and the crafty ladies (and men) made a spring greeting card in the afternoon. There was also shopping and an In Reach presentation. We were Cruising Up the Caribbean on Thursday with a tropical theme. Residents were able to get their pictures taken in a tropical scene and in the afternoon we had a Luau provided tropical drinks and treats. We also had Bingo in the evening. On Friday Pastor Deb was here for Church Services and we had a special musical treat in the afternoon when Steve Warner came to play for us. The residents have been enjoying the special music events now that the nursing home has opened up for performers. Last week we had a concert by the 2nd Wind Band. The Band played old time favorites and I saw lots of toe tapping and hand clapping to the music. On Saturday there is Sit & Be Fit, Bingo and an afternoon Movie Matinee.

Happy Memorial Day on Monday. There will be Crosswords in the morning followed by a Special Memorial Celebration in the afternoon plus Bingo in the evening. We have Newscurrents on Tuesday morning and then Choir with Nancy and Wheel of Fortune. Wednesday brings a game of Family Feud followed by Crafts and Shopping in the afternoon. Pastor Deb is back for Bible Study on Thursday and the ladies will get their nails done at Pretty Nails in the afternoon. We also hope to spend some time out in the courtyard during Patio Time in the afternoon. Plus, there is bingo in the evening. We have Church on Friday morning and then a Donut Social (Yum!) in the afternoon. The residents will also be playing Noodle Ball.

There are no resident birthdays next week but Delores Evans down in Sun Center has a birthday on June 3rd. And only one staff member with a birthday – Raven Smith on June 4th. Happy Birthday to both of you and enjoy your special day!

A special thank you also goes out to the Sons of Norway who provided colorful Norwegian ribbons for our residents to wear to celebrate Sytende Mai last week!

We have several staff members who are 2021 graduates from both high school and college. From MPCG they are Harley Parrow, Sophie Kloster, Theresa Nelson, Grace Koshney and Ava Nelson. From Mayville State University – Carlee Ellingson, Anna Bradner, Darrel Wilson, Mason Hart, Jacob Sherva, Daniell Rader and Braeden Jorgenson. From Washington State University (Go Cougs!!!) Sabrina Amundson. I also left a Lake Region State College Graduate out of last week’s column – Sarah Gage who is our evening receptionist and also helps fill in in the activities department. Congratulations to all of these new graduates and best wishes on whatever you pursue in the future.

Until next time … a thought for the week … Henry David Thoreau’s description of Nature …” Heaven is under our feet as well as over our heads” … so get out there and enjoy!
