Greetings from “The Home” front
The nice weather earlier this week was a wonderful present and the residents enjoyed peeking outside for a brief look! We hope that spring is just around the corner.
Monday (President’s Day) we had newscurrents and a President’s Day themed 5 square game, along with sensory and lotion in motion. There was bingo in the evening. Tuesday brought Sit & Be Fit and rhythm band with Pam in the afternoon. There was a new activity on Wednesday morning – Tic Tac Toe Toss – what a fun game for everyone to play. Mary and her quilters were here in the afternoon to work on another project. We were able to hang the last quilt that the residents worked on in our activity room – we have received several nice comments about it. It’s very colorful and adds a bright spot on our wall. Could you smell the liver and onions on Thursday? The residents made them during Kitchen Cappers. It is a most popular menu item and we had a large turnout. There was pretty nails in the afternoon followed by Elaine reading “The Story” – our bible lesson. Must be close to the end of the month because the American Legion/VFW were here for “real” bingo on Friday. It’s one of our popular activities and the dining room is always full. Pam will be here on Saturday for a sing-a-long and there is Kaffee Hus both Saturday and Sunday at 2 p.m. The Saturday movie matinee at 3 p.m. is “Space Race”. It is an award winning documentary chronicling the major events and characters in the American/Soviet space race leading up to the moon landing. Sounds interesting.
Next week there is newscurrents in the morning and a new activity called Prayer Club which was suggested by one of our residents. Members of the Prayer Club make and send a card to a resident who is ill or in the hospital. Valley Free Church hosts the Auxiliary Birthday Party on Tuesday. Wednesday (March 1 ALREADY!)and also Ash Wednesday! Pastor Dianne Krumm will be here for an Ash Wednesday service and in the afternoon the residents will be making Shamrocks during crafts. There is also Bunco later on. Thursday brings Name That Tune in the morning and another rousing game of Table Hockey. This has turned out to be a popular sport here at LMH! On Friday it’s church, pretty nails and happy ½ hour.
We have two resident birthdays to finish out the month – Brenda Smith on February 26 and Ardis Storebo on February 27th. There are also three staff birthdays – Heather Satrom Feb 25th and Sue Edwardson and Shaylyn Cordova on Feb 27th. Happy Birthday to all of you and enjoy your special day!
Do you enjoy visiting with the elderly and serving coffee? Luther Memorial Home is looking for a Kaffee Hus Attendant. Hours are Saturday and Sunday from 1:30-4 pm. Apply at Luther Memorial Home or print the application on line at www.luthermemorialhome.com.
I will be on vacation next week to sunny (I hope) Las Vegas so my column will resume when I return!! Until then a thought for the week …The happiest people in life are the givers, not the getters.
