LMHome nurse Dawn C., one of the staff volunteers, spruces up the courtyard flower bed

Greetings from “The Home” front …

Several of our residents braved the chilly morning and went out on the lawn to enjoy the Summerfest parade as it went by LMH last Saturday. THANK YOU, to the Summerfest committee for bringing  the parade past Luther Memorial Home, we appreciated  it, our residents love watching parades.  Also a  big thank you to the volunteers and staff that helped transport residents outside, retrieved blankets for them and made the day special.  The residents got to see Ardis and Gerald Storebo – our Valentine King and Queen as they rode by and waved to everyone.  Nancy was here on Sunday and did a Sing A Long which the residents also appreciated.

We had another busy week at LMH - Monday brought Newscurrents in the morning and Kitchen Cappers in the afternoon.  The residents made an Orange Yogurt Salad that was delicious.   We needed Sit & Be Fit on Tuesday morning after all the yummy treats lately.  Riverside Church was hostess for the Auxiliary Birthday Party in the afternoon.  Marion Johnson entertained with some wonderful music.   Jackie Kuhle from Countryside Creations provided a beautiful spider mum for each June birthday resident. There was 5 square on Wednesday morning and then the residents made garden flowers out of various sized china plates/bowls during crafts.  These “flowers” will be on display in our garden and courtyard.  Thank you to volunteers who helped with this project. We also had time for Bunco later in the afternoon. We had a real cutie visit us on Thursday when Elizabeth Kurolus came for her baby shower.  She is the daughter of staff members Meagan and Mathew Karolus.  The residents sure enjoyed holding and seeing her.  The American Legion/VFW were here on Friday for “real” Bingo which always brings out a crowd.  Saturday (July 1st already!!!) and there will be Down Memory Lane and Kaffee Hus.  Our Saturday Movie Matinee is “Frozen” – when their kingdom becomes trapped in perpetual winter, fearless Anna joins forces with a mountaineer and his reindeer to find the Snow Queen and break her icy spell.  “Frozen” is the 9th highest money making movie of all time – sounds like a winner!

There was a special group of volunteers that came on Monday to help weed our courtyard flower garden.  They dug, weeded and spruced up the area.  Thank you to Sandy Braaten, Sandy Abbas, Nancy Bjerke, Lee Brenna, Julie Hanson, Dawn Carter, Janet Nielson, Shirley Rux, Jackie and Brett Ulrich, Julie Winger and Lisa Nelson for undertaking this big project – many hands make light work and your work sure made a difference.  Thanks again!

On Tuesday, another volunteer Janice Hoyt took resident Randy Schober to a baseball game at the MPCG high school – I heard they had a wonderful time!  Thanks Janice.

Next week brings a special treat when we have Accordion Music by Paul Swanstrom on Monday afternoon in the dining room.  Hope you can attend.  On Tuesday (4th of July already!!!) and there will be 4th of July Memories during reminisce in the morning and then Fire Cracker Bingo in the afternoon – we have some special prizes planned for the winners.  There is choir, crafts and Men’s Club on Wednesday – The men will be playing black jack!  Its reading, kitchen cappers and patio time using the memory ball on Thursday.  Friday brings a picnic in the shelter after church and then pretty nails and happy ½ hour. Whew – it’s great to have so many activities going on!

It’s also time to mention that our Auxiliary PIE DAY will be coming up on Thursday July 20th.  Please come and join us in the afternoon for a delicious piece of pie and a chance to bid on several silent auction items.  This is an annual event and one of our major fund raisers – so please come and support your local nursing home.

We have one resident birthday next week – a firecracker baby – Mary Lynne celebrates on the 4th of July.  I wonder if her parents always told her the fireworks and celebration were in honor of her birthday!  My friend’s parents always did until he was about 7 years old! There is also two staff birthdays- Carol Romaniuk on July 1st and Susan Piatz on July 3rd.  Happy Birthday to all of you and enjoy your special day!

Until next time … a thought for the week … Remember there is no one else on earth like you.  Find yourself and be yourself …
