Greetings from “The Home” front
What a beautiful day we had on Monday to go to Dollar General for some shopping. The residents enjoyed seeing the Fall/Halloween decorations and buying special treats. Thanks to our volunteers – Thelma Eide, Sheryl Vinje, Janice Erickson and Linda Strand who helped the residents with shopping. We couldn’t have done it without you. Tuesday we had Sit & Be Fit in the morning and Rhythm Band in the afternoon. Several residents and sun center tenants spent the afternoon enjoying coffee and conversation at the Finley Senior Center as Administrator Brett Ulrich, Social Service Director Jessica Nelson and Activities Director Lisa Nelson gave a presentation on Luther Memorial Home. We reminisced about black cats Wednesday morning – are they really superstitious? In the afternoon the residents helped make Ghost Suckers during crafts. The suckers are for the Peter Boe Third Graders who visited their “adopted” grandparents on Thursday. This was the first meeting of the year and a chance for everyone to get acquainted. The children will be coming once a month to spend time with us. Friday brings church in the morning with popcorn and pretty nails in the afternoon. There is 5 square on Saturday along with Kaffee Hus. Our Saturday movie matinee at 3 p.m. is “Ben-Hur”.I don’t need to say much about this award winning classic and epic historical drama starring Charlton Heston.
Be sure to mark your calendar for Sunday which is our Octoberfest Dessert Bar and Ice Cream Social. It starts at 2 p.m. and is a free well donation. I know there will be lots of yummy desserts to try! Don’t forget to buy a raffle ticket for a chance to win $200 cash and 2- $50 gas cards! See you there!!
Next week will be playing Halloween games. Monday morning there is newscurrents and later in the afternoon we will be making No Bake Banana Split cups during kitchen cappers. Oh my! They sound yummy! After those banana split cups we will need Sit & Be Fit on Tuesday. There is Rhythm Band in the afternoon. Wednesday brings Name That Tune and Men’s Club in the afternoon. We will also have a Halloween Bean Bag toss. There is Bible Study Thursday morning and then Pin the Nose on the Pumpkin in the afternoon. We have church, pretty nails and happy ½ hour.
Monday, October 16th is Boss’s Day. I am going to put a special message to my boss, Lisa Nelson, right in the middle of this column. Thanks, Lisa, for being so positive and encouraging to your staff and our residents. I enjoy working with (for) you!
We have one resident birthday next week – Viola Sparrow has a birthday on October 14th. Two Sun Center residents celebrate on the same day – Eileen “Rusty” McMullen and Frances Braaten have birthday on October 19th. Several staff members are also celebrating birthdays – Lee Ann Strand and D’Anne Warner on October 15th; Stacey Nosbusch on October 16th and Kristie Flaten on October 18th. Happy Birthday to all of you and enjoy your special day!
Gladwin & Mary Lynne celebrate their anniversary on October 15th. Best wishes to you!
Our sympathy goes out to the friends and family of Nels Petersen who passed away October 6th. Nels was only with us briefly but enjoyed visiting with staff and his family. Rest in Peace Nels.
Until next time … a thought for the week … The happiness of your life depends upon the quality of your thoughts…
