Greetings from “The Home” front ….
What a busy and fun week we have had – even though it started out stormy and cold our residents enjoyed activities inside where it was nice and warm.
Monday we learned about the history of the Reece’s Candy Company. Resident Connie Strand’s relative was involved with the beginning of the company and she and her nephew gave a very interesting program. Plus we all got Reece’s Peanut Butter Cups! We had Sit and Be Fit Tuesday morning followed by Rhythm Band in the afternoon. Mary and her gang of quilters were here on Wednesday to help the residents make another unique project. Later in the afternoon resident Galen Geer spoke to the Men’s Club on the intricacies of fly fishing and tying your own flies. We had hoped the Peter Boe Third Graders would be here to visit their adopted grandparents on Thursday but with all the illness at school it was decided they should wait until later to come – so we played Noodle Balloon Ball instead. What a hilarious game it is!!! Some of our residents are very good batters! We continued with reading “The Story” later in the afternoon. Friday brought church in the morning with pretty nails and popcorn in the afternoon. Molly will be here on Saturday for Down Memory Lane – she usually brings some interesting piece of “junk” to talk about. And our Saturday movie matinee is Star Wars!
Next week is definitely a busy one – we start off Monday with our Sweetheart Dinner. Dee VonRuden will be entertaining and Chris Larson will be taking pictures of the couples. The menu includes Sour Cream Chicken, Baked Potatoes and Rice Pudding –sounds yummy! Invitations have been sent out so please be sure to RSVP. We also have Kitchen Cappers in the afternoon – the residents will be making Valentine Parfaits. We are definitely going to need Sit & Be Fit on Tuesday after all that delicious food. Then in the afternoon is our Valentine Party. The residents are casting ballots for our new 2017 Valentine King and Queen who will be crowned at this special event. Elaine Klath will be playing the piano and Chris Larson will lead a sing along. We will have a van trip to Shopko on Wednesday afternoon (weather permitting) and there is Trivia, Table Hockey and “The Story” on Thursday. Friday brings church, pretty nails and happy ½ hour. The residents will be enjoying chips and dip with their beverages.
We wish a speedy recovery to Monsignor Pilon who conducts on Friday morning Mass and Catholic services. Monsignor became ill while on a visit to the Holy Land. We are keeping him in our thoughts and prayers.

Our sincere sympathy to the friends and family of Clara Hus who passed away February 2nd. Clara enjoyed our musical activities and visiting with the staff and residents. She liked to watch the comings and goings of our residents and staff. A service was held for Clara in our chapel on Monday. Rest in Peace Clara.
Until next time … a thought for the week … The world is changed by your example not by your opinion …
